I had the privilege of hearing Sora Vigorito share her story of survival, unimaginable loss, and resilience. Her testimony is a powerful reminder of the atrocities committed in the name of medicine and of our responsibility as physicians to speak out against antisemitism, defend human dignity, and never allow silence to become complicity. We owe it to the survivors and to future generations to remember, educate, and speak up.

Najmeh Amini is 23 years old. She should be building a life. Instead, she is in an Iranian prison, reportedly sentenced to death over a social media post, asking the world: “Be my voice.”

Somewhere, her parents are waiting for their daughter to come home. No family should have to fear that words their child wrote could cost her life.

Chicago Jewish Alliance stands with our Persian brothers and sisters—with the Iranians who reject terror and are fighting for a country where they can speak freely, raise their children in peace, and decide their own future. The regime that threatens Najmeh’s life does not speak for them.

As a Jewish community, we cannot ask the world to care about our safety and turn away from theirs. Our solidarity must reach beyond our own community, especially when speaking up is dangerous for the people who need us.

We stand together against jihadist terror and religious tyranny. We stand for Najmeh’s right to live, and for every Iranian risking their freedom to demand something better.

Her death sentence must be overturned. Say her name. Share her story. Help her appeal reach people with the power to act.

Najmeh Amini deserves to go home.
