Dimitri Bähler
Designer · Biel/Bienne, Switzerland

Dimitri Bähler’s practice moves between industrial design, craftsmanship and experimental research. His work is characterised by a continuous search for balance — between simplicity and sophistication, pragmatism and poetry, precision and spontaneity — resulting in objects that often reveal the possibilities of a material or process through subtle interventions.

Presented as part of Dislocated Utility: Objects out of Place.

Curated by Natascha Madeiski & Paulina Reséndiz

Opening 17 September, 18:00

“I think that when you see the exhibition, you might come across some rather surprising rules and things that will make you pause, or that you wouldn’t expect to see in a museum setting. ”

In this final episode of our series dedicated to the artists of “Pour tout faire, il faut une fleur”, Sabine Hess presents her installation located at the very top of the museum, “One Bed, Two Blankets, Eighty-Five Rules”, the result of her collaboration with Nicolas Polli.

This is the beginning of a longer reflection that has been accompanying my practice for years and became especially present after this year’s visit to Arles @rencontresarles.

The conversations, exhibitions, the recent PhMuseum @phmuseum/ & MPB @mpbcom review on female and non-binary voices in photography, and Boris Ondreička’s essay for Triple Ampersand @tripleampersand on the Venice Biennale @venice.art.biennale all brought me back to the same questions.

What are the material consequences of representation? What changes beyond visibility? Who gains agency, and who remains part of someone else’s narrative?

These are not conclusions; they are questions I continue to ask from within the cultural field. As an artist, facilitator, and participant who relies on these structures, I believe they can and should be questioned and reshaped by those they are meant to serve.

Bye bye @rencontresarles and thank you my beloved chosen family true allies with whom we build exceptional connection beyond the status quo, boring buffoons, snobby elitist, limited by the burden of privilege, naked emperors, petty bourgeois, and all what causes art world’s mediocrity lacking substance, corporate and green - and pink- and whatever color you will -washing. I’ll post some fancy real from Arles but let me first have a breather. Another hard year ahead me and I must charge the batteries to be able to keep going. btw nothing better boost my creativity than a bit of a break!II know that we can bring the change little by little and organized together, locally and by the butterfly effect. I believe in us! Love you!
