14:00 Conversation with artist Sabīne Šnē
14:15 Break (snacks and time to talk)

Join us for Meet the Residents!

📅 Wednesday, 14 October 2026
🕑 18:00 – 19:30
📍 PRAKSIS, 2nd Floor, Rådhusgata 19, Oslo

Bring a friend and join us at PRAKSIS as artists in residence Anastasia (A) Alevtin (FI) and Sabīne Šnē (LV) will give a short introduction to their individual practices and their developing plans for the residency, followed by informal discussion and Q&A.

Held in English | Free and open to all | No step free access

Latvian visual artist and educator Sabīne Šnē uses multiple media and platforms (image, sound, objects and text) to explore the deep, complex relationships between organisms and elements, the human and the more-than-human. Her work seeks to reveal the inseparability of ecological systems from politics, society and economics, including processes of resource exploitation and extraction.

At PRAKSIS, Šnē’s research will focus on cultural institutions understood as rhizomatic, living ecosystems. Working with the Teen Advisory Board, she will develop a learning kit that asks how we connect and share knowledge.

Helsinki-based transdisciplinary artist and researcher Anastasia (A) Alevtin’s practice deploys diverse text and performance strategies towards the achievement of more liveable—queercrip and migrant/migratised—ordinary worlds. Via one-on-one performances, lectures, short and slow video works, publishing, collective learning and more, their work challenges disabling norms and promotes fleeting doings-in-common and practices of nonapparent subversion.

Alevtin proposes to explore “crankiness”, defined by the artist as “a justice-seeking orientation device for artistic worlds and (queercrip) communal practice, in poetic companionship with spiky plants and their cranky militancies".

Until 15 December, the artists are working alongside each other.

Supported by Nordic Culture Point.

SPECULATIVE ECOLOGIES 2026 - POROSITIES | SCREENING RECAP 🌿

On 17th September, we gathered at Lichtblick Kino for 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙀𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙚𝙨: 𝙋𝙤𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨, for an evening where cinema became a space for coming together and imagining new realities.

Across nine short films, we explored porous boundaries between human and more-than-human worlds, bodies and technologies, the organic and the artificial, and the forms of life that inhabit the spaces in between. An evening of shared perspectives, encounters, and collective speculation.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this night of encounters and speculation possible. 🌱

Fragments from a conversation with Margarita Frančeska Loze (@margarita.i.loze).

London-based Latvian artist Margarita Frančeska Loze likes to look closely and follow curiosity. A plant vein can become a landscape and a root system can turn into an intricate embroidered world. She explores patterns, cycles and relationships in the living systems around us, translating them into artworks. Her practice moves between textile, painting, sculpture, moving image and sound.

Born in Riga, Loze first studied Textile Design at the Riga School of Design and Art before moving to London, where she graduated with a BA in Fine Art: Painting from Wimbledon College of Arts, UAL and an MFA in Fine Art from Kingston School of Art.

She has exhibited internationally and participated in residencies across Europe and Taiwan. Recent group exhibitions have taken place at Roman Road, Hypha HQ and Blanco Gallery in London and 1/2 Room Gallery in Changhua, Taiwan. Two years ago, she had her first solo exhibition in Riga at LOOK! Gallery (@look.itsagallery). Now her works are back in the city, inhabiting Kalnciema Kvartāls Gallery (@kalnciemakvartals) as part of her solo exhibition “Microcosm” (@mikrokosms_izstade), on view until September 27.

Today is the screening of the second edition of “Speculative Ecologies”, a side event of @viertewelleff. This short film program brings together works by directors from the FLINTA* community who explore the boundaries between the human and the non-human from different perspectives. They also explore the interaction between humans and technology, as well as multispecies transformations. Through their work, they conceive of alternative ways of living and coexisting, offering a glimpse into other possible worlds.

I’m happy to be in this edition:

SPECULATIVE ECOLOGIES 2026 - POROSITIES | TRAILER 🌿

We are living in an age when the boundaries of the human body seem to be dissolving. The high concentrations of nanoplastics found in the human brain, a byproduct of extreme pollution, pose a challenge: rethink what boundaries mean, and see porosity as an opportunity to “stay with the trouble.”

Porosities starts from there: from the conviction that the boundaries separating the living from the inert, the organic from the technological, the individual from their environment, are primarily cultural constructs. Yet moving beyond these constructs allows us to see that these boundaries are permeable, that they blur and transmute.

Porosities is an invitation to speculate about life and companionship in possible worlds.

The program has been curated by Bárbara Bielitz (@laecha).
