Exactly one year ago I moved into my studio, and I'm so grateful to have it! ✨️

At the time I began to realize how quickly my art and my ideas were outgrowing my living space. Living with lots of people and pets, I was running out of corners and table tops to store and make my work. I had to find a space to contain my big art and big ideas.🖼💡

I toured a few places and was quoted crazy prices for spaces that are a quarter of the size of my current studio 😂. And after visiting the last place I remembered seeing @rose_inks post about a studio space a few months earlier. And shortly after visiting I chose to make @thestew202 my studio home.

This is my first studio and the first space that's ever been "my own". I feel so blessed to have this third space to create in solitude, host studio visits and hang out with friends. 🏠

I couldn’t have made this big leap in my practice without the continued support of @thedcarts . Thank you for investing in the artists of this city it means more than you know. 🙏🏾

Here’s to making more work, sharing the space with more people, and seeing where the next year takes me. 🥂

'...IS A STAR', to me, is the affirmation of our resilience as a people. The phrase is reminder of our unlimited potential and our kinship to the cosmos. It's such a poetic line that speaks directly to our skill of reclaiming our personhood in the face of oppression. Who would deny, that you and I, and...

The iconography references Boris Gardiner's song "Every Nigger is a Star", Kendrick Lamar's "Wesley's Theory", & hip hop culture at large. It also utilizes pan-african motifs and an aesthetic nod to Faith Ringgold's "Woman Freedom Now".

This tapestry was made for and to be loved by black people.

I have produced a limited edition run of this tapestry & I will be releasing for purchase at my show. A pre-order form will soon be available.

📢 Join Us for an Evening of Poetry, Healing & Action Against Cancer Disparities in the DC Metropolitan Area📢

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Washington, DC. But behind the numbers are real lives and real losses. Black communities, especially in Wards 1, 7, and 8, continue to bear the brunt of disparities—higher mortality rates, lower screening access, and systemic barriers that shape health outcomes across generations.

Yet, data alone cannot capture the depth of lived experience. That’s why we’re transforming cancer lore—stories of diagnosis, survivorship, caregiving, and healing—into poetry, a medium of truth, power, and change.

🎤 Live poetry readings by DMV poets and community members
🖼️ A moving exhibit of poetry created from in-person listening sessions
🎷 Jazz accompaniment to honor stories of loss and strength
💬 A powerful panel discussion featuring survivors, advocates, and health leaders

The 91st Annual Arts Student Exhibition

What an honor to be a part of the student exhibition hosted in the Howard Art Gallery for a 2nd time. Thank you to everyone who filled and fueled me with kind words, support, hugs, pictures, and more. It meant so much more than you know! Such an overwhelming night filled with love, art, great vibes, and surprise awards.
