For ten years, the first weekend in October meant Hard Ready®.

This is the first one without it. I expected to miss the training. I didn’t expect to miss the stress of putting it all together.

Mostly, I miss the people. The ones who came every year, the ones who showed up for the first time, and the ones we never got the chance to meet.

I wrote about that void, and what those weekends taught me about building a room where everyone belongs.

Boxing through out the years since retirement(7 years…I think) in the midst of those years I’ve sought many different trainers through out Charlotte. Everyone has their own unique style and ways they teach, but I just wanted to learn and become better. No I’m not into getting hit in the face at almost 40, but I’ve gotten so much better and most of this encounters happens once a week sometimes once a month and I’ve seen vast improvements. I always boxed even before this I want to say 2014, but coming in and having some type of know how helped too. Even these are old clips and I’m still fine tuning even now. Just keep doing it and keep practicing you’ll see the results

Had a great turnout and great collaboration with @clt_boxing this past weekend as we invited them over for a insider’s workout alongside some of our amateurs as they prepare for our very own @firstbellfest event taking place on Saturday September 26 , hosted and put together by @dymeboxer. It was a pleasure working with uncc as we went over fundamentals, reaction drills and decision making while being in the ring. Now it is too late to register to fight but it’s never too late to get a ticket to come out and support 🥊❤️

Father’s Day still feels raw for me.

Two years later, grief has changed shape, but it hasn’t disappeared.

This week I’ve been thinking about inheritance.

Not money.

Not fame.

The things we carry forward.

The resilience passed down through generations.

The courage to walk into rooms that weren’t built for us.

The strength to keep going when life doesn’t unfold the way we imagined.

As we celebrate Father’s Day and reflect on Juneteenth, I’m thinking about the price so many paid to create possibilities for the generations that followed.

My father was one of those people.

Not because he was famous.

Because he kept going.

And in many ways, I’m still learning what that legacy means in my own life.

Some inherit wealth.

Some inherit wisdom.

Some inherit wounds.

The work of a lifetime is learning the difference.
