💚💛 We had a wonderful time at the HHS Emeritus luncheon on September 8th. It was great to see all of our emeritus faculty, and we were delighted to be joined by three former HHS Deans: Dr. Marilyn Hopkins, Dr. Fred Baldini, and Dr. Robin Carter! We also were privileged to hear Faculty and students from across the college present their research on topics including the effects of long covid, the creation of a student-led health clinic for aging people, and addressing age-related illness in older adults who are incarcerated.

🌊✨ INTRODUCING THE COACH HONORÉ VISUAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM ✨🌊

Where Communication Meets Inclusive Instruction.

What if a simple visual cue could help every learner feel more confident, engaged, and successful?

I'm excited to introduce the Coach Honoré Visual Communication System, a collection of 25 educator-designed PEC Cards created to support inclusive instruction in Adapted Physical Education, physical education, and swim instruction.

Inspired by my experiences in the CSULB Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Program, these visual supports are grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and designed to promote communication, safety, engagement, and student independence.

Designed to support:
💙 Preschool-aged children
🏊 Elementary-aged learners
🧩 Students with disabilities
🌟 Students with autism
🗣️ Multilingual learners
📚 Students who benefit from visual supports

Each card features clear language, simple visuals, matching gestures, and color-coded categories to create more accessible and consistent instruction across learning environments.

As a CSULB graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, an Added Authorization in Adapted Physical Education, and a current California Teacher Credential candidate, I'm passionate about creating evidence-based resources that help every student feel seen, supported, and successful.

This is just the beginning, and I'm excited to continue expanding this visual communication system to support educators, families, and learners of all abilities.

If you're passionate about UDL, Adapted Physical Education, or inclusive teaching, I'd love to connect.

💙 Because every learner deserves instruction that's accessible, engaging, and empowering.

July is Disability Pride Month, an annual celebration of disability identity and the anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). This years theme, “The World Works Better With Us”, was selected by the Arc’s National Council of Self-Advocates (NCSA), and is representative of the fact that “when people with disabilities are included, respected, and supported, communities work better for everyone”. Here at Sac State, our Disability Access Center (Lassen Hall 1008) works collaboratively across campus to ensure students with disabilities have equal education access.

The future of healthcare runs on data—now you can be part of it.

The College of Health & Human Services and Department of Public Health are excited to launch a new major concentration in Health Informatics & Data Science, giving students the tools to use data and technology to solve real-world health problems. Interested in improving patient outcomes, addressing health disparities, or shaping policy? This could be your pathway in.

This fall, get your first look at how data and technology are transforming health and healthcare delivery in our new course: Introduction to Health Informatics (PUBH 170).

❤️💛💚Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day. June 19, 1865 was the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas received word of the Emancipation Proclamation and their freedom. While it is a day to celebrate, it should also be noted that this occurred more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. It is a day to celebrate, reflect, and acknowledge the work that must still be done to create equity for marginalized people, especially the Black community, in the United States. Check our LInkTree for local Black owned businesses you may want to patronize, and the Sacramento Juneteenth Festival that takes place tonight and tomorrow!
