When 13 underwater photographers complete a combined 188 dives, you're almost guaranteed to come away with some truly unforgettable encounters and a collection of standout images.

Over the past week, the Alex Tattersall & Saeed Rashid Underwater Photography Workshop has been filled with incredible critters, creative breakthroughs, and plenty of inspiration both above and below the surface. From the vibrant reefs of Bangka to the black sands of the Lembeh Strait, it has been a pleasure to watch participants refine their skills, share ideas, and capture the remarkable marine life that makes North Sulawesi so special.

What do you love most about diving in the Lembeh Strait?

We asked a few of our workshop participants that very question, and the answer was almost unanimous—the weird and wonderful critters. From bizarre frogfish and flamboyant cuttlefish to elusive octopuses and tiny, cryptic creatures hidden in the black sand, it's these unforgettable encounters that keep divers and underwater photographers coming back time and time again.

After an incredible week of learning, laughter, and unforgettable dives, our underwater photography workshop participants have wrapped up the wide-angle portion of the workshop.

From vibrant coral reefs and creative lighting to new friendships and countless memorable moments, Bangka has delivered an amazing experience both above and below the surface.

Now it’s time for the next chapter, Lembeh Resort @lembehresort , where the focus shifts from breathtaking reef scenics to the fascinating world of macro underwater photography.

Our underwater photography workshop participants explored Bangka’s colorful reefs, drifting past vibrant soft corals, surrounded by schools of mackerel, and enjoying an incredible close encounter with a curious cuttlefish.

A great underwater photo starts long before the dive!

The day began with breakfast at 7:00 AM, followed by an inspiring wide-angle photography session led by our photo pros, Alex Tattersall @alextatters and Saeed Rashid @saeedrashid01. With fresh ideas in mind, everyone carefully prepared their camera systems before heading out for another day beneath the surface.

While the photographers focused on their gear, our incredible dive team took care of the rest, carefully carrying all 14 camera systems, loading dive equipment onto the boat, and setting up each guest’s gear so they could simply relax and enjoy the experience.

But one of the best parts of the workshop isn’t just the photography, it’s the people. Between morning coffee, boat rides, and shared excitement over each day’s images, complete strangers quickly become dive buddies and lasting friends.

This is what an underwater photography workshop at Murex Bangka is all about: learning from world-class photographers, diving spectacular reefs, and sharing unforgettable experiences with people who love the ocean as much as you do.

The journey begins! From the airport transfer to settling into the resort, meeting fellow photographers, and getting camera gear ready, Day 1 is all about preparing for an unforgettable week beneath the surface.

This workshop is led by Saeed Rashid and Alex Tattersall, two highly respected names in underwater photography. Saeed is an award-winning underwater photographer and educator, known for helping photographers refine both their creative vision and technical skills. Alex Tattersall is an internationally acclaimed underwater photographer, founder of Underwater Visions, and a long-time expert in underwater imaging, camera systems, and lighting techniques.
