Reflecting on an incredible week at the @_iadms_ Conference 2026. ✨

This wasn’t just about rounding up presentations and movement sessions; it was a profound opportunity to look inward. It was a week of realizing my own growing privileges and repositioning myself within the context I grew up in.

True safety and inclusion in dance (beyond the bounds of ballet) requires more than just teaching movement. It demands that we understand how our identities can motivate us, and how they can, at times, become barriers to the dynamic development that dance can bring to everyone.

Thank you to the IADMS Board members, the amazing staff members, the Australia hosts and everyone who shared space, you are such amazing souls. I’ve enjoying putting bodies into the square faces I often see only on my tiny screen. Towards a safer, more inclusive dance practice. 🌍🪩

Coming back from knee pain can be tricky, and the earlier you figure out how to find reintroduce different ways of moving, the faster you’ll bounce back.

Management is the key word here. Pain is a guide, and often we have to listen to how our body uses pain to tell us things. You might be surprised to know that if you waited to be “pain free” for everything, then you might end up in a worse situation.

In growing conditions like Osgood Schlatters (or Severs, Islin’s, etc) it’s often about finding the right exercise, AND the right LOAD.

This can look different day to day, which is why we like to say management. With that said, rest usually isn’t the first option we give, so if we say you have to rest, then be assured we’ve literally done everything else (yes we’ve had to have this conversation before).

If you’re looking for care that sees you for the dancer you are, AND responds to the ebbs and flows of your human self as well, we’re here to listen and guide :)

Let’s move!

💃🌎🕺The intention of the International Dance Day is to celebrate dance, revel in the universality of this art form, cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers, and bring people together with a common language - DANCE.💫 Enjoy the World Organization for the Performing Arts message for #InternationalDanceDay today, April 29th, 2025, authored by dancer & choreographer Mikhail Baryshnikov who wrote quote:
💬
"It’s often said that dance can express the unspeakable. Joy, grief, and despair become visible; embodied expressions of our shared fragility. In this, dance can awaken empathy, inspire kindness, and spark a desire to heal rather than harm.
Especially now—as hundreds of thousands endure war, navigate political upheaval, and rise in protest against injustice—honest reflection is vital. It’s a heavy burden to place on the body, on dance, on art. Yet art is still the best way to give form to the unspoken, and we can begin by asking ourselves: Where is my truth? How do I honor myself and my community? Whom do I answer to?"
🎼💃🎵🕺🎶🦋
My truth? --> Embrace daily dance, movement, and expression with a no matter what attitude, unapologetically, as my wellness practice and with playful ease.
😀
How I honor myself & community? --> Let my being's innate and undeniable passion to dance freely everyday inspire & support others in embracing their whole being through embodied movement, awareness, self-love, and ecstatic joy in motion... dance!
🎨
Whom do I answer to? --> All of myself and who I am, in each new day.
🫶
What are your answers to these compelling & provocative questions? Share in the comments and let's have a supportive conversation about how we empower ourselves to be who we are and give ourselves what we need while at the same time sharing with all of those around us.

Simple answer: s*x sells (and wins). Let’s change the paradigm.

Hey Dance Fam, I’ve been thinking a lot about something that really matters to me and I hope it does to you too. Why do we often see our young dancers in costumes at competitions that just don’t seem right for their age?

In my journey with Stage Door Dance Productions, I’ve learned something valuable: dance is more than just steps and routines. It’s about building character, creating a sense of community, and most importantly, keeping the innocence and joy of childhood alive.

I remember the time one of my young students looked uncomfortable in a costume that was chosen for a competition. It struck a chord with me. That moment was a turning point in how I view performance attire. Our kids are kids, and it’s our job to protect and nurture them.

So, let’s start a conversation. How can we, as a dance community, make better choices for our young performers? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Let’s use our passion for dance to make a positive change. 💫👯‍♂️👯

🩰💪 Dispelling the myth: dancers and gym workouts.

Contrary to the prevalent myth that dancers should avoid strength training at the gym, it's time to debunk this notion and recognize the immense benefits of integrating gym workouts into a dancer's regimen.

1️⃣ Injury Prevention: Building strength enhances stability and reduces the risk of dance-related injuries.

2️⃣ Endurance Boost: A solid fitness foundation improves overall stamina, enabling dancers to deliver powerful and sustained performances.

3️⃣ Muscle Balance: Dance often emphasizes specific muscle groups. Gym workouts ensure a well-rounded, balanced physique, preventing muscle imbalances and potential injuries.

4️⃣ Enhanced Technique: Strength training improves core stability, aiding in better control and execution of complex dance techniques.

5️⃣ Longevity in Career: Strong muscles and joints contribute to a longer, healthier dance career. Investing in strength now pays dividends in the long run.

6️⃣ Confidence and Body Awareness: Knowing your body's strength capabilities boosts confidence, allowing dancers to push boundaries and explore new movements.

Remember, strength training complements dance; it doesn't replace it. It's about enhancing the artistry through a resilient and powerful physical foundation. 💃🏋️‍♂️
