#IndonesiainHamburg #Debussy #Gamelan

Moin #SahabatKJRIHamburg! Pada Minggu, 6 September 2026, KJRI Hamburg bekerja sama dengan Sagonese e.V. dan Museum am Rothenbaum, Kulturen und Künste der Welt (MARKK), menyelenggarakan acara bertajuk "From West Java's Tea Plantations to Debussy: The Global Life of a (Sundanese) Gamelan" di Hamburg. #IndonesiainHamburg

🎶 FROM WEST JAVA'S TEA PLANTATIONS TO DEBUSSY The Global Life of a (Sundanese) Gamelan In 1889, a gamelan from a West Javanese tea plantation captivated a young Claude Debussy at the Paris Exposition Universelle and quietly reshaped the future of Western classical music. More than a century later, this same gamelan rests in Hamburg, carrying a story of colonial trade, cultural encounter, and artistic transformation rarely told. Join us as we trace its journey from the tea fields of Parakansalak to the halls of MARKK today. 📅 Sunday, 6 September 2026 📍 MARKK Hamburg 🖼️ Visual Presentation (Golden Tower Room) Rare photographs tracing the gamelan's journey from Parakansalak to Hamburg. 🎙️ 15:30–17:30 — Seminar Uncovering the history behind the gamelan, its colonial roots, and its echo in Debussy's music. Workshop Commodity, Plantation and Colonialism in Indonesia Current Research in Social, Economic and Architectural History This workshop brings together historians of different disciplines engaged in the histories of commodities, plantations, and colonialism with a particular area focus on Indonesia. It aims to foster dialogue among scholars based in and around Germany whose work spans the architectural, social, and economic history of the subject over a long period from the early modern to the contemporary. The event is also organized in conjunction with the visit of the distinguished historian and anthropologist Pujo Semedi from Yogyakarta. Rather than centering on a single thematic framework and historical period, the workshop profits from a shared subject, area focus, and attitude—a critical engagement with the structures and legacies of colonial economies, lifeworlds, and built environments. These already provide all speakers with a common ground for meaningful exchange. — Keynote Speaker Pujo Semedi (Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta) Sharing in Indonesian Plantations 1870-2020 — Presenters Wijnt van Asselt (Stichting Indisch Thee- en Familiearchief, Amersfoort) Joëlla van Donkersgoed (University of Luxembourg) Geraldus Martimbang (Technische Universität München) Friederike Sattler (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt) Will Davis (Università della Svizzera italiana, Mendrisio) Grace Leksana (Universiteit Utrecht) Sam Miske (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) — When Thursday, 23 July 2026, 13:00 - 18:30 Friday, 24 July 2026, 9:00 - 13:00 — Where Pavillon 333 Türkenstraße 15, 80333 Munich — Registration contact@sagonese.de @sagonese.de @geraldvskevin @ppimunich #architecturecommoditychain #konsumarchitektur #teatime
