OUR FIRST FAMILY VACATION

I don't know how to have vacations. And, due to this weakness of mine, my family has suffered the most. I would feel guilty for going on a vacation. Everything I need to do in life needed purpose. How could I go on vacations when that money can be used to pay off a debt, build a home... how could I go on a vacation leaving sick parents behind?

Even though those sick parents would plead me to go out. Yes, I have taken kids and Amna out but those were either work trips or trips undertaken to fulfill a commitment where we would squeeze out time to have a few moments. Did go on a few picnics with families, but no vacations with Amna and the kids.

Just didn't have the capacity to switch off from the world.

Then, planning one was difficult, it wasn't possible for me to plan one. Which hotel? Strolling in the streets or a resort? Gazing at the marvels or sleeping it out? Would Amna get leave? Can I take out time from work and work related travel?

So, this time we just decided we will just go and disconnect. No hotel bookings, just keys to a flat a friend had in Murree. Keys that he slipped in my bag when I met him last. We had a last minute hiccup, but this time we made sure we will go. And then, we reached Murree.

And every small moment became a lifetime memory from there onwards.

Like it was visiting my own childhood where our stroll at the Mall Road would start or our first stop used to be Lintott's. And now my memory is also their memory now. I am so glad for passing on this inheritance to them.

Hope we do this often, @sahar_amna, insha'Allah. Love you four, more. ❤️ 🩷 💙 💜

Baby Ayisha meets her feline relatives for the first time. Her sister, nephews and nieces were a little busy though.

But, their Khala was full of joy! 😹

It has been eleven years with @sahar_amna, ALHAMDULILAH.

Eleven years ago, we said "yes" to each other without knowing what the future would hold. We began as two people carrying hopes, dreams, fears, and faith. Today, by Allah's infinite mercy, we are five - blessed with Khadija, Ibrahim, and Ayisha, ALHAMDULILAH.

Marriage is a strange and beautiful journey. Over these eleven years, we have travelled through days of joy and days of uncertainty. There were moments when dreams came true and moments when life broke me in ways I did not think possible. Especially in the last four years, there were losses, battles, disappointments, and tests that left deep marks on the heart. I told her I won't be able to give her time, she remained. I told her the children won't get time, she remained. I told her they are going to put me in a cell, she remained. I told her if I don't survive, she said she will continue the battle till the end - she said she will hold the fort.

Through it all, she remained. She stood beside me.

People often say thank you to their spouses for supporting them. But I am not sure that is the right phrase here. After all, she signed up for the adventure. She chose this life, with all its chaos, unpredictability, impossible ideas, long journeys, and stubborn dreams.

So perhaps this is not a thank you.

Perhaps it is simply an acknowledgement that Allah SWT was exceptionally kind to me when He wrote her into my story.

She has shared in every dream, we built a family and house together, took every risk, celebrated every victory, and glorified Allah SWT for every heartbreak, together.

If there is one thing I would thank her for, it is this:

For making the journey beautiful. For giving me a home in a world that often feels like a battlefield.

And for reminding me, every day, that I married the most beautiful woman, not merely in appearance, but in spirit.

Eleven years down. INSHALLAH, a lifetime to go.

DON'T GIVE UP | SHOWING UP IS ENOUGH

I was in Gilgit when I received an SOS from Khadija. The message came in all caps:

"BABA."
“I’M NOT DOING THE PROJECT.”

So, like a good project manager (at least I like to think so), I stepped in as soon as I returned on Wednesday, convincing, nudging, trying to shift her mindset. Amna joined in with her classic carrot-and-stick approach (it comes naturally to her), and somewhere in between, we decided we would all do it together.

And just like that - before I hit the road to Chitral - Khadija completed the project, wrote her research paper, and even memorised a few lines.

What makes me happiest is this: she’s learning to face her fears and turn them into strength. Before the world tests her, she’s already learning to win the battles within.

One step at a time.

Proud of her for choosing to show up instead of giving up.

Showing up is enough.

Happy Birthday, Papa.

Amna is making pulao today, we are celebrating with the dish you loved. The dish you always said was more refined, more complete than biryani. You never held back on that, nor on declaring the superiority of Punjabi cuisine. In your world, Punjab was the king, and everything else was just trying to keep up.

I still remember how deeply you would go into explaining flavors, the warmth of garam masala, the sharpness of green chilies, and your absolute favorite after Ammi - Aunty Red Chili. The way you spoke about it, it often felt like you weren’t just describing food, you were sketching something you loved.

Your world was simple: good food, family, and moments of joy. And in many ways, your life was beautifully simple too.

By the way, Amna has committed her usual foul, she is serving it plain, without any salan on the side. I know, if you were alive, Amna was due to for a refresher course or a proper scolding. But without you, life feels a bit plain now anyway, kyun Sadia aur Amna?

By the way, you should come by more often in my dreams. I understand the lessons you left behind, but sometimes you can come for the banter. Khair, I know you are in a better place, surrounded by those you loved. I remember one of the first times when I had a dream about you, you weren't there, but Shehzad Uncle Marhoom came and informed that you were doing well and are now busy praying, in his usual giggling way.

And today, on your birthday, Allah SWT gave a bit of good news to your loved ones here, something that had been pending for long, something you wanted for your loved ones. Maybe just a small reminder that His timing is always perfect, ALHAMDULILAH.

So yeah, plain pulao without salan, it fits.

It really does.

Online schooling has reached a point where @sahar_amna, I and all the parents in Pakistan are willing to open the Strait of Hormuz ourselves.

Today is our 10th wedding anniversary, and Amna decided she’s treating us to dinner. So we head out to pick up food. She steps out of the car and forgets her wallet.

I, being the responsible husband, call it out and hand her the wallet like a good man.

Now she’s not talking to me.

Still trying to figure out what I did wrong. Can you guys help me?

You're my precious blessing but that doesn't mean the other two aren't lol - man I can't even express love without disclaimers now 😂
