✨ ANCESTRAL ECHOES — BEIRUT PHYSICAL LAB Avec Ancestral Echoes, la compagnie libanaise Beirut Physical Lab propose une exploration sensible de la mémoire, de l’identité et de la transmission. Née d’une histoire personnelle marquée par l’absence, l’œuvre interroge ce qui nous relie à nos origines lorsque les filiations et les récits se sont effacés. À travers le corps, devenu un véritable réceptacle de mémoire, la création fait dialoguer les héritages de différentes danses — orientale, dabké, bollywood, voguing et danse contemporaine. October’s sharing practices in BACK!! Six emerging artists open the doors to their creative process, offering a look into how their work takes shape: the questions they carry, the methods they test, and the rituals and risks behind the finished piece. This is a space for artists to share their practice, and for audiences to meet it with curiosity. Her practice attempts to merge the footwork and essence of Dabke with the embodied knowledge she has gathered through street and contemporary dance. This practice takes multiple shapes, forms, and bodies. During this session, we will explore different styles and approaches to Dabke, playing with how individuality can emerge within the collective. "memory, repetition, and identity through the physical body". We will begin with a personal memory. Rather than focusing only on what happened, we will try to reconstruct the memory through the senses. We will write down what we can see, smell, hear, taste, and feel. Where is the body in the memory? Is it warm or cold? Tense or relaxed? Heavy or light? What sensation remains strongest? From these written fragments, we will begin to translate the memory into movement. A gesture, a shift of weight, a change in breathing, a rhythm, or a particular sensation in the body can become the physical vocabulary of the memory. Does the body remember differently from the mind? And if our memories are constantly rewritten, what does that mean for who we are? An étude, in music, is a piece written to practice something specific: a technique, a difficulty, a way of playing. Except sometimes, somewhere along the way, the exercise becomes music. ÉTUDE for 10 Dancers began from the same idea. After six months and more than 400 hours of training, ten dancers took what they had been working on—weight, coordination, partnering, rhythm, precision, presence, composition—and put it on stage. The evening moved through six dances by five choreographers, each asking something different of them. Different physical languages, different rules, different ways of listening and moving together. ÉTUDE was the culminating work of the first Contemporary Dance Track: six months of practice, research and encounter, composed into an evening of dance. These photographs capture the performance. What they cannot capture is the community behind it. ÉTUDE for 10 Dancers marked the culmination of six months of intensive training and artistic development through the Contemporary Dance Track at Le Labo de la Danse.
