That’s a wrap! The 2026 season has officially come to a close, and we couldn’t be prouder of our crew for their dedication and hard work.

Off-season operations are now in effect, meaning lifeguard stands and patrolling guards will be off the beach until Memorial Day 2027.

As always, we remain available for safety needs. Please call 911 in the event of an emergency.

A lifeguard’s job comes with countless risks and responsibilities. Open-water lifeguards perform an essential role in protecting people from serious injury and drowning, all while putting their own lives at risk.

Even after hours of specialized training, protecting the environment, preventing emergencies, and responding to medical and water emergencies, open-water lifeguards still lack federal recognition as first responders and emergency response providers.

House Resolution 1188 was introduced to recognize the important role that open-water lifeguards play in emergency response at the federal level. VB Ocean Rescue is proud to join the USLA and other lifeguard agencies in supporting House Resolution 1188.

Education takes center stage at the 2026 USLA National Lifesaving Conference & Expo in Jacksonville! Our expanded schedule gives attendees more opportunities to choose the sessions most relevant to them.

Meet some of the presenters joining us:
– Mackenzie McClintock (South Walton Fire District) – Own Your Story, with sessions on beach safety public information and media relations
– A.J. Miller (Volusia County Beach Safety) – Rip Current Simulator Demonstration
– Maxwell Ervanian (Jacksonville Beach Ocean Rescue) – Managing Beach Events with Limited Resources & Professionalizing the Lifeguard Officer

From public information and media relations to an interactive tool for teaching rip current safety, beach event management and leadership development, these sessions offer practical ideas to bring back to your agency. And this is just a preview, with more presenter highlights to come!

Applications are now open for USLA National Team Management and National Team Staff positions for the 2027–2028 term.

These volunteer positions will support the USLA Open and Youth National Teams as they prepare for international competition, including the International Surf Rescue Challenge in Japan in June 2027 and the Lifesaving World Championships in Morocco in 2028.

National Team Management applications are due November 1, 2026.

National Team Staff applications will remain open as team needs are identified, with staff selections beginning after the 2027–2028 Team Managers are appointed.
