Warehouse 411, Mina Zayed, Abu Dhabi, 2015

Years ago, we had a special opportunity: to transform an industrial warehouse into a temporary exhibition space. The artists, were SEAF participants (Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Emerging Artists Fellowship). Talents emerged from that cohort, and for us it was a privilege to showcase their “beginnings.”

Initiative: Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation
with: Rhode Island School of Design, Anais Missakian, Pradeep Sharma
Coordinators: Khulood Al Atiyat, Dan Phillips

Artists: Abdul Azim Al Ghussein, Afra Al Dhaheri, Al Anood Al Obaidly, Alaa Edris, Alia Hussein Lootah, Asma Belhamar, Hadeyeh Badri, Hamdan Al Shamsi, Khaled Mezaina, Mays Albaik, Moza Al Matrooshi, Saif Mhaisen, Salama Nasib, Talin Hazbar, Vikram Divecha and Walid Al Wawi

Contractor: Projex Dubai

Group discussion on my sketching group led to the hunt and discovery of this gem! My first bookbinding workshop by the amazing talented @salamanasib .. it’s been donkeys years but I still remember her calm n patience, a personality that makes you feel instantly okay about everything in life.. like the rain on a beautiful morning, like the waves on a calm beach. Life is about how people make you feel… and you don’t forget that. Salama, even though I haven’t met you in a thousand years now, I still remember your gorgeous smile and hope our paths cross again! And haha no, I haven’t drawn a single line on this tiny sketchbook cos it’s just too precious !! 😂

In Search of Lost Time, 2024
Oil and Acrylics on Paper

Here we are @ the @iicabudhab. Curated by Vania Rontini

A research-based group show presented by the Italian Cultural Institute of Abu Dhabi in collaboration with @cace_zu . The exhibition explores the subtleties of feeling at home within oneself, one’s work, and one’s environment; artists who live and work in the shifting landscapes of a multicultural setting reflect the layered identities that emerge when living between cultures.
