It’s a long time since I left a show feeling quite so much love in the room. @loeshowofficial left us all fuzzy inside this weekend. There was so much love for the magazine on Pottstown High Street - and not just from the OGs who have been there since issue one, but also those who discovered the magazine for the first time this weekend and had the same tingly feeling I got when I picked up my first copy back in 1996 (albeit, 30 years on)! Seeing the younger generation so excited about a magazine they simply didn’t know exists reinforces our belief that the future of the magazine is arguably safer now than it ever was. We’ve ridden the wave of large publishing houses, the Internet’s arrival and a decline in retail stockists. We’re now privately owned, supported by a group of valued Performance Partners and have a hand-selected bunch of global stockists holding the title. PVW is here to stay and we’re looking forward to the next 30 years. Be sure to join us for the rides, kids. Today is a special day, an anniversary, a day that I want to wish Performance VW a Happy 30th Born-on-Date!!! From the US, I remember the days when myself and others (especially German Squad members😂) would visit Barnes and Noble on Rt. 22 in Springfield NJ, sometimes going inside or driving up to the window to see if the new PVW was on the rack. Drooling over the featured cars and imagining how it must feel to be featured. We'd drool over the parts and accessories that were unobtainium for us here in the states, but managed to get it done. Those were the days that we've all experienced and loved every second. From smoked E-Code headlights to taillight bulb trays with the rear fog light, we all pined to make our cars PVW worthy, in hopes and dreams of being featured! We'd all submitted for Reader's Rides and thumbed every issue to see if we'd made it. Don't forget about the centerfold! Yeah, remember that? The cover car was always the centerfold and here we were hanging them up in our rooms and garages! What's a Playboy centerfold when you could have a PVW car on your wall! The PVW cars were the benchmark from which most of us wanted to build out cars. Ideas here, thoughts there, and the execution of them all into your own iteration, was the goal! I can go on about the MANY hours we've all spent...lol Over the years, I'm proud to say, watching the magazine grow and develop over the years has been so much fun. From the italic PVW logo to the hard point one of late, from soft spine to flat edge and back again, the journey is a love that will never die. There are page browsers, avid readers, and collectors out there, with me being the last two. I have EVERY issue from #1 to the latest, and proud of it! I look at prior articles all the time! "Grey Matters" Yup! I can remember to the minute, when the email thread between myself Elliott and Anna came in with, "You have been chosen..."! I almost died! A DREAM COME TRUE! Who would have known that a guy named Ted from New Jersey would grace the pages of PVW with his car! Not once, but twice!!!! And then work for the mag writing articles! It has come full circle. LET'S KEEP IT GOING!!! HAPPY 30TH BORN-ON-DATE PVW! Just turned 50. Great time to get my first tattoo, right? Never really been into the idea. Then, the other day, I had a flashback of shooting a music video for @sarah_class in Hawaii with @cussbird and @iamsamdobbins. After successfully filming Sarah in the sea as a mermaid swimming with wild dolphins (as you do), MB and SD decided to get matching tattoos to celebrate the occasion. The idea? Topless, bearded mermaids, obviously. I declined at the time and wasn’t really bothered until recently when I suddenly felt super lame for not joining in. Of all the places and times to get one done… So, over a decade later, I’m off to London with MB to get mine done. The question? Where do I have it? On my calf (like they did), my arm or my arse? Decisions, decisions…
