Stepping into this charming, vine covered homestead, is like stepping into a piece of history… and rightly so. Built in the 1850s, @salopianinn has retained a lot of original features including an underground cellar for you to roam in to choose your perfect bottle. They have an onsite garden that, with other local growers, produces its own harvest fit for creating a comforting menu that was perfect for a Bib Gourmand 👏🏻

Our food and wine tour of McLaren Vale started off with a cozy dinner here, and every time we drive by, the beautiful structure never fails to catch my eye 😍

We’re continuing our “Meet the Team” series by introducing one of our physiotherapists, Sue! 👋

Sue has been a physiotherapist for 40 years and has a special interest in oncology rehabilitation, particularly supporting people through breast cancer. She also has a passion for Pilates-based exercise, helping people stay as active as possible at any age, and falls prevention. More recently, Sue has developed an interest in concussion physiotherapy. 💚

What does she love most about her role? Seeing people become more positive and energetic as they improve, helping them feel their best and get back to doing the things they love. ✨

When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll most likely find Sue at the gym, spending time with family, or enjoying the outdoors in the garden or at the beach. 🌿🏖️

A Bib Gourmand for the Fleurieu. 🍽️

The Salopian Inn has been recognised in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide South Australia with a Bib Gourmand.

For anyone new to the term, Bib Gourmand is MICHELIN’s recognition of restaurants serving very good food at a good price point. It sits separately from the Star system, but is one of the Guide’s most recognised distinctions.

At The Salopian Inn, owners Karena Armstrong, Alex Marchetti and Sam Marchetti have built a restaurant deeply connected to McLaren Vale. Karena leads the kitchen with a seasonal, produce-driven approach, while the wider experience draws closely on the growers, producers and wine community around them.

Set inside one of McLaren Vale’s long-standing historic inns, Salopian has become the kind of place people return to, whether it’s for a long long lunch, or a glass of something local at the bar after a sticky beak in the cellar.

A huge congratulations to Karena, Alex, Sam and the entire Salopian Inn team. A very special recognition for one of the Fleurieu’s most enduring dining names.

Meat pies and sausage rolls are part of the DNA of Australia’s culinary scene, so naturally Above the Fold’s @abovethefolddumplings contributor Jasmine Ting @jasminepting decided to eat many of them (as well as plenty of other dumplings and dumpling-adjacent delicacies) on her recent travels through Sydney, Adelaide, and more.

From a modern Thai take on a British classic to an Australian classic done well, the common thread among all these dishes is how they make quality, local Australian ingredients come together to shine. 🇦🇺🥟

If there’s one place I always recommend for lunch in McLaren Vale, it’s Salopian Inn. I have been several times and each seasonal menu is fantastic - the dumplings are a constant on the menu though which you MUST order. Book ahead because they get busy!
