Thought it was about time I learned Charlie Lennon’s Liverpool Reels. This is the one that people call Liverpool Reel 1. This video was made as part of my practising: I like to record myself so that I can watch it back and think about how I might play with the tune some more. I’d spent the period running up to filming it trying to memorise the tune and repeatedly going into the b part of a different tune every time I came to it. Something other traditional music players will know all too well! When I came to the end here I realised that I had been concentrating so hard on not going into the wrong B part that I hadn’t considered how I might end it… hence the clumpity clump of an ending. Ah well, the tunes in my head now at least! This week I’m playing out in Liverpool twice - as part of the @livirishfest Thurs 15th Oct (tomorrow) - accompanying for Sean Nós dance workshop with @mariamiamalone at @liverpoolirishcentre - 4.30-6.pm Booking essential. Sat 17th October - Céilí with my dance band @saltcutters for @movemadance fundraiser at @liveatstbrides - 7pm. Please come along and support your local traditional music & dance events! Also it REALLY helps us if you book your tickets in advance for the céilí as food is included in the price and we need to know how much to prepare! Book at liverpoolirishfestival.com Thankee! #fiddle #liverpool #irish

We’re looking forward to hitting the Dance floor with you all on Saturday!! As our Chair Jessica Ariwa says; “Movema’s 17th birthday céilí is a chance to honour the people, communities and dancers who have made Movema what it is today. Through dance, Movema has given people the chance to express their heritage, culture and art and share the joy of that with others.

In a time where communities and the arts are under threat and under valued, Movema’s mission is as critical as ever and acts as a powerful force for the joys of community making and dance! So let’s raise a glass to 17 years of Movema: of bringing people together, sharing stories and moves, and to the many years to come.”

Good morning me dearies! This coming week I’ll be getting stuck into this year’s brilliant @livirishfest programme and collaborating with @movemadance on two different dance events. No dancing to recorded music for you this week; it’s all live, live, live!! First up is a Sean Nós dance workshop (Irish old style step dancing) with @mariamiamalone at the @liverpoolirishcentre on Thursday 15th. Tickets are £15 - advance booking required. Then on Saturday 17th I’ll be taking our céilí band @saltcutters down to the beautiful @liveatstbrides to play for Movema Dance’s 17th birthday Céilí from 7pm onwards. Tickets are £20 and include an Irish stew (vegan & gluten free options available). This céilí is also serving as a fundraiser for Movema Dance - the indispensable Dance foundation that have served our community with invaluable and inclusive access to dance & music for the past 17 years. With times being so treacherous for the arts they need our support right now. Please don’t pass this by - it’s win-win for everybody; a great night of dance, music, food and drink in a beautiful venue and for a worthy cause. Please, please book your céilí tickets right away if you want to come; it’s absolutely crucial to facilitate the numbers for dancing and making sure that the event goes ahead. Tickets from LiverpoolIrishFestival.com #fiddle #liverpool

🎻💃 Our Birthday Céilí at St Bride’s Church — Saturday 17th October! 💃🎻 We’re so excited to celebrate our birthday with you in one of Liverpool’s most beautiful and special buildings — St Bride’s Church, the last remaining classical Georgian church in central Liverpool. With its stunning Greek Revival architecture, soaring open interior and beautiful visual simplicity, St Bride’s is a truly magical space. Its vast, uninterrupted shape also creates incredible natural acoustics — making the church a wonderful venue for music, singing and, of course, Céilí dancing! 🎶 We can’t wait to fill this amazing space with music, dancing, laughter and the sound of everyone coming together. ❤️ And there’s something especially lovely about celebrating in a building that has always been at the heart of its community, offering sanctuary and support to people who need it. So polish those dancing shoes and come join us for a very special evening of music dancing and  Céilí spirit. 🕺💃✨ Link in bio to book 🎻 Proceeds go to Movemas charitable work with women and children and resettled communities in Liverpool 💕 #internationalcharityday
