Something I’ve learned in almost 20 years of being an entrepreneur? It’s a wild ride.

It’s stretched me more than I ever imagined. It’s challenged me, humbled me, and at times, left me wondering if I was doing any of it right.

But I’ve been fortunate to find the people who quietly remind me that I don’t need to build this alone. The people who challenge me, encourage me, celebrate with me, and aren’t afraid to tell me the truth.

Community has always been something I’ve immersed myself in. From sports teams as a child, to work and uni friends in my 20s, and now in the past year I’ve found new communities… the women in business who feel like lifelong friends (ok some actually have been). The ones who have changed the way I lead, the way I think, and the way I build my business. I’m incredibly grateful for the people who’ve become a part of my journey.

And something extremely valuable I’ve recently learnt through mentorships and business communities I’ve chosen to join?
The right people won’t build your business for you.
But they’ll help you become the person who can.

Life is weird right now. This morning I would have been happy to waste away in bed and hit pause on business for the next 7 months. But there are people that depend on me.

I’m lucky I have an incredibly supportive family. And coach. Not only that, but I have caring mentors and clients. So I can’t complain. But people recently have been making me doubt myself and I’ve been losing confidence.

At least there was a turning point today and things got way better. It started with talking to @itssuzycrawford and kept getting better with a chat to another agency owner and client.

And then I finished the daylight with a wellbeing massage and immediately headed to Jordan River to meet my family for this sunset. It was pretty frigid but oh so lovely. Home to thaw out with wine, spaghetti, and a fire.

Thank you to the people in my life. I’m working with even more business mentors now and I’m looking forward to some changes in the coming weeks and who I will attract with those changes.

Big love to you all. Especially this little fam of mine.

Hi! Here’s me, Amy. I’ve been eluding to making a post about an update to my year and figured it’s about time!

As some of you may or may not know, on top of my photography work I’m also a social media manager and marketer. It is a career path that I began diving into more and more when I had my farm business as I learnt it was the part I enjoyed most (maybe tied with flower arranging). Last year while on maternity leave, I gave a thought as to what I wanted to do when I returned to work. For some reason, I thought it would be a sane decision to start another business 2 months postpartum. I took 3 months prepping and setting things up and last May @saltleafagency was born.

2023 was a hard year financially for our family but we got by. Kind of. It was the best year I’ve had for my photography and I am grateful for everyone’s support! But there were months when no one was booking and I only had a very part time job to fall back on. It was stressful and I felt like I was failing my family. But still, we kept on keeping on.

Days into 2024 things seemed to begin to take a positive turn. To the point that for the past 5 to 6 weeks I’ve been working 50 to 60 hours per week! @saltleafagency finally seems to be getting the growth that I had hoped for when I started it.

So where is this going and why do I need to post an update about my year?
I will be scaling back with my photography. I know many people wait to book until my mini sessions. I anticipate I’ll hold a very limited amount of these this year. Maybe 1 or 2 outside of the holiday season and then 1 or 2 Christmas weekends. Regular bookings will still be happening and availability will depend on the month. I’ll likely only be able to book a maximum of 4 shoots a month.

Therefore if a photo shoot is something you want to do this year, book in early! I know a full shoot is an investment so if anyone ever wants to do a payment plan system, just reach out and ask.

Thank you as always for your support! I can’t wait for the beautiful sessions and connections that I’ll be able to do this year.

🙏💌 Amy

Women in business supporting other women in business.

The small business and market circles on the southern part of Vancouver Island have allowed me to connect with some extraordinary people. I love the support and friendships it keeps leading to. Constantly building one another up and being delighted in each other’s successes.

Here’s to you my fellow entrepreneurs and ladies blazing our paths through this world.

I’m getting better at asking for behind the scene shots of myself. It was hard to resist this set up after seeing @aaaaajsssss through my lens in the same spot.

Artwork by my talented friend @aaaaajsssss at @gallerymerrick. Check out her residency this Thursday through Sunday, with a special tea party Sunday afternoon!
