ITCH! Dir. Joe Savage Screened as part of my remote press coverage for Black Sunday Film Festival Midsummer Scream Suspecting she’s caught something other than feelings from their first rendezvous, Jules arrives for a second date at the home of the awkward but charming Thomas, until a strange phone call sends the evening spiralling out of her control. The lighting design in ITCH! is sensational. From the outset we're gifted a variety of moodily shot scenes which play with shadows so beautifully, acting as a veil between the audience and the horror that lurks within the undertone of the short's story. I liked how we're gifted clues into what the gut punch will be; subtly placed hints are woven into each moment ready for eagle-eyed viewers to piece together like an intricate puzzle. Yet I wasn't expecting the ending to hit as dramatically as it did, and when the one line of dialogue containing the missing puzzle piece is delivered, it's already too late. ITCH! is a masterfully structured example of genre storytelling in a short form. The tension throughout is palpable, aided by great performances from Rachel Rooney and Tom Whittaker and the score adds another layer of dread to the viewing experience. I'd highly encourage you to seek out ITCH! at a festival screening near you as it's one not to miss! I'd like to thank Director Joe Savage for sharing this screener with me. @danielsurridge_ @yannickhausler @luka_zlatanov @patrickforster22 @james_elsdon_media @cleopatra_reigns @tazhypno_music @catherinefrawley_stills sam_viner @thelooklondon @danieljamiewilliams @mbseco @sunbeltrentalsuki @sunbeltrentalsukifilmtv @toyahfitz #itch #indiehorror #blacksundayfilmfestival #shortfilm #filmreview
