What a way to launch a season!

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate Origins Unwrapped and a year of exceptional live music ahead.

We enjoyed special intimate performances from the Kings Place Jazz Orchestra, @festivalvoices, @alicezawadzki with @mishamullovabbado, and the @sacconi_quartet, while finally revealing the artists, ensembles, and ideas that will shape our 2027 season.

As our Artistic Director, Sam McShane, reflected on the night, Origins Unwrapped explores the stories, influences and connections that shape who we are as artists and audiences.

A huge thank you to our artists, partners, press, supporters and friends for joining us ❤️

Swipe for a few highlights from a wonderful evening ➡️

A huge thank you to the phenomenal @voces8 and @jackliebeck 🎻 for such a magical and exquisite premiere of my new work for choir and violin ‘Dante’s Rose’ 🌹 last night at @kingsplacelondon @sam_sam_mcshane @libbyperc1val @little_clog in a wonderful concert of heartfelt music to a sold out audience.

Setting words from ‘Paradiso’ the end Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’, my piece is also inspired by Gustave Dore’s beautiful engraving ‘The Celestial Rose’. With additional gratitude to the brilliant @emilysunviolinist 🎻 for all her support and to the Contessa Commissioning Circle 💫🌟✨

Wonderful to have written a new work ‘Dante’s Rose’ 🌺 for the incredible @voces8 vocal ensemble and violinist @jackliebeck to be premiered tomorrow evening at @kingsplacelondon @sam_sam_mcshane as part of their ‘Memory Unwrapped’ Series. My new piece sets words from ‘Paradiso’, the concluding section of Dante’s epic ‘Divine Comedy’, additionally inspired by Gustave Dore’s beautiful illustrative engraving ‘The Celestial Rose’. Also excited to be sharing a new painting of my music, to be on display in a temporary exhibition of my artworks for the night on the lower ground! And with huge thanks to the Contessa Commissioning Circle for all their support!

Swing into Summer with the Kings Place Jazz Orchestra this August at King’s Cross Summer Sounds!

Summer Sounds is an incredible free annual festival that takes place in Coal Drops Yard across August, and we are so excited to be taking the orchestra outside of Kings Place, for the very first time!

🗓️Thursday 20th August at 6:30pm - free entry, no tickets required!

This all-star 10-piece line-up will perform a swinging set of songs is inspired by the music of Marty Paich and the Dektette, originally recorded by the great Mel Tormé in 1960 on the seminal album “Swings Shubert Alley”. To sing this music, we are delighted to be joined by special guest vocalist @elijah.makesmusic - making his debut with KPJO.

You might see my name up front, or a picture of just me, but nights like this are never built by one person alone. It takes a village.

The show at King’s Place on the 25th of June was only possible because of the people who stood beside the vision, carried the details, told the story, captured the moments, made it sound beautiful, got the word out, held me up, and helped bring the whole thing to life.

My team, my band, my family, my support, my community. I appreciate you.

We did something special together, and I’ll never take that for granted.

See you all on the 9th of October at @kingsplacelondon for the third and final part of the suite, ‘Remember Us Tomorrow’.

Thanks #seenandheardinternational for the super review of our performance premiere of Joseph Phibbs’ Piano Quintet along with our Mendelssohn and Brahms 💫

Also a chance to say thank you to all the composers out there, we need you more than ever ❤️

@sam_sam_mcshane and @kingsplacelondon for their part in commissioning this work

“Proceedings began impressively with an intensely rapt and refined reading of Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No.2 in A minor…

In Phibbs’ new Piano Quintet, Noriko Ogawa and the Piattis brought heartfelt commitment and an improvisatory freshness to material tailor-made for their musicianship. It is hard to imagine this rewarding and indispensable addition to the chamber music repertoire being shaped and illuminated by more persuasive or impeccable advocates.

After the interval, the Piattis presented a deeply felt and precisely articulated performance of the String Quartet No.1 in C minor by Brahms. There was fervour and warmth as well as power and energy in the outer Allegros, while the Romanze second movement was invested with wistful lyricism and the following intermezzo-like movement had a shadowy allure. The performance of the Brahms work was dedicated by the players to the late Günter Pichler….

As a welcome encore, the players chose the Cantilena from Joseph Phibbs’s String Quartet No.4, which was written for them in 2024…..cast a spell over the audience and set the seal on an evening’s music-making of the highest order.”
