A standing ovation for @samba_kat from @sambaliscious on being crowned Queen of the Australasian Samba Competition 2026 – the highest honour of our Royal Court! ✨

This crown celebrates more than a performance. It represents passion, dedication, confidence, and a love for samba that inspires everyone who steps onto the dance floor. Kat, you embodied the spirit of samba and earned your place at the very top of the Royal Court. 💚💛

Your reign as Queen 2026 begins now, and we can’t wait to see you represent our samba community with grace, power, and unforgettable energy throughout the year. 👑🥁

Parabéns, Rainha! Que seu reinado seja repleto de brilho, alegria e muito samba! ✨

Show Kat some love in the comments! 👑

What is samba without community? Without connection? Without joy?
So grateful that samba found me.
It lived beside me until I understood it, and I realised that it is a part of me.
It is in samba that I come back to myself.

So much gratitude for the wider samba community. It’s not about I. It’s about we.
Beautiful moments beyond the stage at the @australasiansambacompetition weekend. 💖

I always get shaky legs because I'm so nervous on stage, so I have to remind myself that performing isn't actually about me. I always worry about making mistakes and not looking good enough, which is embarrasingly superficial. The Brazilian people are keeping their culture alive and our mentors create the best pathways they can for us to learn and participate in that. There's no room to think about myself like that, especially because those thoughts negatively affect my performance anyways.

The time for worrying about technique and remembering choreography are in rehearsals and workshops. I should be zen when I hit the stage so my body connects to the music and I do the art form and culture justice. It's a bit easier to do that when I'm sharing the stage with a lineup of Queens or my Samba Passion sistas, but that's still something I have to work on.

Getting to watch the rest of the show gave me teary eyes and goosebumps though. I'm so honoured to be a part of something so much bigger than myself and I most definitely will be back 😜
Happy 10 years @australasiansambacompetition 💛

Kat our new QUEEN!!! 👑

I have loved watching your samba journey, we have lived so much samba together over the last few years but working with you for this freestyle solo was one of the highlights. You are so passionate and deeply respectful of this beautiful culture but this year in particular you set your goal of competing in this category and you dove head first into training, studying and connecting, it was wonderful to witness.

It all culminated last night when all that hard work showed on that stage! Your performance was impeccable! You were strong, confident, effortless and so so elegant but most importantly your joy and passion for samba shone through every single step. You can really tell you had fun up there and we all had so much fun watching, you put on an absolute show!

Enjoy every moment of your reign as Rainha 2026! Love you @samba_kat @katbirchley
