like all earthly creatures, i exist at the whim of other mind's imaginings. thank you for the pleasure of engaging with this world as an artist. thank you for all of the love i receive, in ways intended and unintended. thank me for choosing art finally. thank you for joining me, for sharing, asking, telling, buying, hanging. thank you to all of the individuals, institutions and organizations that helped propel my art through the year. thank you. thank you.

Grateful and excited to share that I was recently featured in @samefacescollective's recent issue, Shape/Shift. You can read it via the link in my bio. The background photo belongs to Lindsy Avritch’s @lindsyavritch.art photo series “Wild Feminine,” featured by Same Faces Collective.

I don't have many pictures of myself from this time, as I was quite lonely. I think these two pieces show at least a little of that. Glad those feelings can live here now, while I'm happier with other things. :-)

hey all! @sfkeahna here, about to sign off. i wanted to close with some thoughts on WHY i write.

writing is a compulsion to me, but i refuse to give everything away. in the piece the final screenshot is from, “you can eat what you want of what i feed you,” i discuss this dedication to privacy, sanctity, at length. it’s odd because my diarist work IS very tmi, but it’s intentional. invitatory. my hope is that, through specificity, we might be able to find some universality—love, family, anger, heartbreak. annoyance, even.

when people say we live in a divided world, they’re usually alluding to binaries—right/left, liberal/conservative—but i think it goes deeper than that. i think we’re divided even within ourselves. both this and that. some of us become so deeply attached to our ideologies that they become core identity, and when that identity is threatened, we lash out.

i write for you. you, all of you, everybody who sits with my work. there is a vulnerability in my old work and it’s receding, now, as i retreat into my own privacy—as the vulnerability closes up shop and is replaced by a kind of distance. i write through that, too. my hope is that, by troubling our divisive waters, i remind us of our own finite periods. our lives, here for awhile, gone again, one day.

some of my animation is on display at four ten lofts rn as part of the media quilt. i’ll be doing an artist talk there march 7th or so—more narrow dates & times incoming. if you like what i do, pls consider keeping up with me on my website or at these events. i’d love to see you.

thanks if you read this far. that’s all for now 💌

@jeffreyestern, one of 30 Birds dedicated founding board members, wrote a captivating memoir of his time as a media correspondent in Afghanistan, “The Mercenary”, an excerpt of which is currently featured in @samefacescollective fall issue “RE: VISION.”

We are always so proud of Jeff and the courage and vulnerability he displayed in sharing his story with the world. Thanks to @samefacescollective for sharing Jeff’s work and uplifting our mission here at 30 Birds.

So privileged to be included in the new @samefacescollective new edition: “Re: vision”!
I took this photo at my cousin’s wedding over the summer. This is my little cousin admiring herself in the mirror while my family and friends are stressfully getting ready for walking down the aisle. She is my icon.
