Brought the boy to camp, but before we made his bottom-bunk bed (first year—he always went to the top), we spent a night together in the mountains in a cabinette close by.

There, we swam in a lake, me, Sam, and Zeph, like water turtles: flipping, choreographing and synchronizing our swimming, and laughing like people ought to.

We ate burgers, played pool and pingpong, swam more in a pool with sloped sides (genius), and drank Sprites, IPAs, and gin spritzes with basil.

After we hugged the boy, assured the boy, reluctantly left the boy, we found an old friend and a new friend even further into the mountains.

There, we watched the sunset from the tallest rocks: a monument to our forefather. Lamb spiedies, more gin, more basil, and catching up painted our evening.

Tyler Childers and First-Aid Kit set the tone, and man, I swear I could call any place home with friends and family sitting at an old picnic table.

Summer is swinging a high note right now and for that reason, I had to share and pass it on! My motto this summer: more hiking and less trying to figure it out.

He’s pretty cool, a little bit old school, a mix of ink and wood. I would not be half the person I am today if I didn’t share my morning coffee, the day’s tales, or my wins and fails with him each day. Happy Birthday, Sweet Man—love you ridiculously. 🤍✨🙌🏽✨🤍

Five Relationship Truths I’ve Learned in One Year:

1. If you are supposed to meet someone, the universe will put that person in your path in various ways till you meet. And when you do, you will know. You will know that something divine intended it, and you will not have to push or chase.

2. While connection is not enough to hold a relationship entirely, true connection is about the coolest experience you can have in a lifetime. To meet someone that sees the world so close to the way that you do is a rare gift and makes this planet one thousand times more enjoyable.

3. Honest and loving relationships are not void of conflict. Conflict is an opportunity for growth. It’s how two people show up authentically and willing to do the work that keeps a relationship thriving.

4. With that, repair is everything. Learning from mishaps and communicating how to move forward with an open heart, rather than going into fight or flight mode, keeps two people much happier and healthier.

5. Gratitude goes a long way. Showing, speaking, and embodying gratitude for each other individually, and together, helps create genuine trust and gives way to some kick-ass adventures.

I’m a week late to National Boyfriend Day, but I sure do have a great one! And a year around the sun together seems worthy of celebration.✨🤍✨

All 3 mushrooms here and safe for dogs & humans. Chaga looks like burned wood, but makes a good tea or tincture. #foreverdogbook talks about the benefits. I listened to on #audiblebooks but decided to buy a copy for reference💕🐾🐾🥰 #samhotchwork #chagamushroom #hunter extraordinaire!

There’s an unspoken sheltering in the first trimester of the birthing process. A quiet three months of reveling in the change: the emotions, the morphing of body & soul, the learning of a new language. It’s as if a gift is coming, but its story has yet to unfold.

One can say falling in love is like this, too. The way one incarnation masters another incarnation, silently, the folding of bodies, wishes, dreams, it’s almost an apocalypse. Fate meets past, meets future, to create the present. It’s a soft obliteration, offering us a choice to open, a chance to broaden beyond the lone-wolf life. First, a howling, and then a howling back.

And just like with birth, real love comes naturally, with the innate knowing that you are always worth the expansion. Something guides us toward one another on this planet, toward the beautiful, the uncomfortable, and the safest connections we can create.

The first season of love, in this human form, comes with a rare light to help us find our way through the strange darkness we have come from. It’s a birth that I wish to never take for granted and am feeling fortunate, finally, to impart. 🤍
