Here comes the obligatory end of year wrap up essay combined with photographic highlights.

I started 2024 with really high hopes. Within a few days of the new year, I finally joined SAG and was ready to take on the world. I think a lot of us in the entertainment field were hoping things would pick up this year.

This year has been pretty dark for me mentally. I have felt hopeless with my ever decreasing video views. Am I still relevant? Was I an internet one-hit wonder? Along with personal issues, losing a friend, and the direction the world is going in, it’s hard to stay positive. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

To those who made this year better for me, thank you. For those still watching my content, thank you. Let’s cautiously enter the next year and be kind to each other and ourselves.

The Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) 📸

It’s all very “TINA! Bring me the Nikon!” meets Peeping Tom (1960).

This is a bonkers thriller just dripping with late 70s design and glamour, about a controversial and famous fashion photographer who begins to see visions of her coworkers’ murders as they happen, as if through the eyes of the killer. There’s a laundry list of recognizable future stars, including youngsters Raul Julia (the best ever Gomez in Addams Family), Tommy Lee Jones, and Brad Dourif (the voice of Chucky from Child’s Play), all giving kooky character studies.

But the grande dame of this show is the one and only Joan Crawfor- da, I mean Faye Dunaway. This is a transitional film for her, from the effortless brilliance she displayed in Chinatown and Network, to the symphony of bizarre character choices she makes in the comedy masterpiece Mommie Dearest in 1981.

You begin to see the odd acting choices creeping in all over this movie; the weird crook of a finger here and the extra twitch there. After Mommie Dearest you can never unsee the Dunaway of it all in every performance. And it never went away, even by the early 90s when she plays a side character in a thriller, she’s serving Crawford as the stressed CEO of a cookie company beset by murder and sabotage (The Temp).

#GAGREEL is what happens when you put three queers and one adjacent in a room who can’t help but talk during the movie. FRIDAY, SEPT. 20th at 10:30pm we take essential queer history aka “A Nightmare on Elm St. 2” and dissect every part of it until the final scream. Super excited for this night 🎞🍿📽
