Today we also want to congratulate the four finalists of Cycle Two.

These artists responded to our theme, Rooting, in unexpected, vulnerable, and imaginative ways that stayed with us throughout the selection process. We’re pleased to support their continued creative practices and recognize the strength of their work and proposals.

@samwsmith33 for ‘Lost & Found NYC’
@yatta.sound for ‘The Black Wander Orchestra’
@chriswoebken for ‘In the Matter of the American Eel’
@carrie_re7l for ‘Untitled’

Thank you to every artist who applied. We’re grateful for the time we spent with your proposals and hope you’ll consider sharing your work with us again in future cycles.

A few of our favorites from last week’s Summer Parlor! Thanks for coming out and showing our writers some love—and for trusting us once more to hold all of y’all. Big ole shout to @alkim.ph for these beautiful shots.

Until next time, we’ll see you around Cortelyou 💌

Last and certainly not least, we have wonderful filmmaker @samwsmith33 . We were taken by his film Embodied and can’t wait to share it with you all. Representing this piece at Parlor will be Associate Producer Madeline Henderson and Line-Producer Colin Sevely-Ortiz. We’ll be sending big cheers from afar to Sam!

Samuel Wright Smith is a cinematographer, gaffer, animator, filmmaker, photographer, and visual artist located in NYC. He has made it his goal to share images and stories that are both personal and universal. Smith is interested in art that blurs imagined boundaries such as us/them, self/other, human/nature and life/death.

Please welcome Sam!

That's the kind of storytelling we're proud to platform.

At its heart, this project, Embodied, was about listening. Giving people the space to talk about their lives, their legacy, and what mattered most to them. 🎬✨
