Since it's our birthday week (yes, we're the type of people that celebrate for a whole week) we wanted to revisit these amazing idents @oliversinyeah made for us last year to celebrate our 10-year anniversary and the killer score @sanctus.audio pulled together! We've been lucky to work with Oliver and Wes for a decade and they are hands down some of the best of the best - make sure to give them both a follow.

I always wondered when it would be our turn to make a sick conference opener for @halfrezchicago. Turns out, it was this year.

We made a movie about the creative journey and the seasons we move through along the way. About the spark we all carry inside, and finding ways to keep it alive, even when things get tough.

I’m so happy and proud of this film, and of everyone who poured a little piece of themselves into it. It means a lot to see something so personal come to life and share it with this community.

And like I said when I had the pleasure of presenting our beautiful work on stage with Patrick Coleman:

If you’re in your winter, push through it.
If you’re in your spring, nurture it.
If you’re in your summer, enjoy it.
And if you’re in your fall, embrace it.

Be kind to yourself, find your people, and keep making things, keep your spark alive. ❤️✨✨

Under Adverse Conditions:

Come and sit beside the glow
Watch the colors of the show
Pull the blanket, gather near
Everything you ever loved is right here

What started as footage of the snow falling on a cold, dark Chicago night turned into something inspired by the Game Boy era of the 90s. Through gradient mapping, snow became fire and a winter night became a warm digital glow on the gameboy.

Can you hug a reel? Is that allowed?

I hope so, because Justin Lemmon’s reel is brimming with the kind of cozy work that makes me want to squeeze the living daylights out of it.

His character design and animation are top notch. But it’s the textures and the lighting that make the work feel so tactile and approachable.

Add to that an impeccable sense of color, and you have a truly outstanding body of work.

Justin is a freelance motion designer based in Detroit with over 10 years of experience in animation, illustration, and character design.

Survivalist – Riso Wolf Edition explores AI through a tactile lens, where digital generation meets the character and imperfections of analog craft.

Inspired by the visual language of Risograph printing, the project explores the intersection of AI generation, illustration, design, and sound—embracing texture, grain, imperfection, and experimentation to create a cohesive audiovisual experience.

Process

Generation → Illustration → Animation → Risograph Printing → Scanning → Final Animation → Sound Design

This BTS clip breaks down the audio of one scene.

A percussion bed of varied samples and textures mirrors the breadth of work that the FrameRate platform is home to.

The cello performance by @jordanhamiltonmusic threads through the entire film as the consistent voice of FrameRate.

The final sound design is rooted in film scoring as a nod to the medium and its history.

Full credits and breakdown on the @framerate.tv blog.
