In the past few months, it has been incredibly difficult to create, move, and make art while witnessing the pain, loss, and suffering unfolding in Iran.

And yet, through the heaviness, we continued to gather. We continued to dance. We continued to create together.

Being part of @sjdanceproductions this season has meant so much to me. Creating and performing meaningful, thoughtful work—especially a piece dedicated to the mothers of Iran who have lost their children—has given me a way to move with intention, process grief, and create alongside a community of artists I deeply admire.

This production is more than a show. It is a community of true artists who have poured their hearts into their work, showing up with honesty, vulnerability, and dedication. Being part of that community has been a gift and a reminder of the power of art to connect us, heal us, and keep us moving forward.

It is truly an honor.

@chichaklar will be presenting two pieces in this show, and I would love for you to join us. Alongside our work, you’ll experience beautiful creations by many talented artists, each bringing their own voice and story to the stage.

📍 Kay Meek Arts Centre, West Vancouver
📅 June 21, 2026
🕠 5:30 PM
🎟️ Tickets: $25

Please plan ahead, as there will be a FIFA match that day and traffic may be busier than usual.

To reserve tickets, e-transfer $25 to sjdanceproductions@gmail.com and include your name(s) in the message.

Let’s continue supporting art that is created with purpose, care, and intention. I hope to see your beautiful faces there.

Here Sandra, the French teacher and outdoor lover, is playing with the curtains in the dance studio. She totally invests herself in everything that she does. @sandramothes_

Sandra - the French high school teacher and dancer - now becoming a choreographer too. Here she is working on a new piece. @sandramothes_

Which do you prefer, the first dramatic shot or the full body more explanatory edit?

Sandra- The French dancer, choreographer and high school teacher! After a rehearsal in a dance studio, she started playing with a piece of red fabric and magic happened. She has a lovely sense of movement that she likes to combine with big statements and actions. It is a pleasure to watch her improvise @sandramothes_.

Be sure to swipe and catch the colour version too. The red makes it very dramatic.

2025, what a year ✨

Seven series of Azerbaijani dance classes. Countless hours of movement, learning, laughter, and connection. A beautiful and deeply committed community gathered week after week—human beings from all backgrounds, walks of life, careers, and life commitments. Some came with physical injuries or limited capacities, yet still showed up at the studio simply to be there, to move, to share culture, and to experience joy through dance.

This year, we created 26 dance video collaboration productions and brought our work to life through performances, festivals, and community gatherings that continue to shape who we are:

• An experimental 12 Minutes Max studio showing at @thedancecentrebc
• Performing at @sjdanceproductions ’ Summer Show
• Sharing our culture at @wvculturalfest
• A bold and deeply personal performance at @stand.festival , rooted in migration and storytelling
• Watching our little Chichaks shine at @zaviehmusicvan ’s Nowruz and Yalda celebrations
• Performing at @araz.rismani ’s Yalda event
• Hosting a Lezginka workshop at @farstudiogym
• Participating in the Dance Centre Open House
• Celebrating two heartfelt member reunions, reminding us that this community extends far beyond the studio walls

We also stood side by side through one of the hardest moments…two painful weeks of conflict in Iran. In the midst of fear and uncertainty, we stayed united. We kept dancing. We held hands. We supported one another. We chose connection, resilience, and growth over silence and separation.

We are endlessly grateful for this incredible community..for every dancer who showed up, every body that trusted the process, every heart that held space, and every form of support that allowed us to create, record, and share these moments together. None of this would exist without the collective care, presence, and love that surrounds Chichak.

2025 was a year of dancing, building, and belonging.

So thankful for all of it… and already excited for what 2026 will bring 💫
Let’s keep dancing ❤️
