We feel pretty lucky to be located along this Oregon gem. The Sandy river originates from the Reid Glacier on Mt. Hood and flows west and north to it’s confluence with the Columbia. The Sandy offers everything from scenic river watching, hiking, fishing, swimming and floating. How do you enjoy the river?

What a be☀️utiful day with Sandy River Watershed Council!

Today, the U.S. World Class Taekwondo Leadership Team helped install native plants along Beaver Creek to restore habitat for salmon and wildlife! 🪴🐟
Along with that, our littles helped to clean up their community! Starting at Glenn Otto Park they made their way down the Columbia River Gorge, picking up all the trash that is unfortunately left, and they did it all with a smile!

The Sandy River Watershed Council (SRWC) is a leader in collaborative habitat restoration throughout the Sandy and its tributaries the Bull Run, Zigzag and Salmon rivers. SRWC leads voluntary on-the-ground, science based restoration, stewardship, community engagement and education, with a mission to protect and restore the natural, cultural and historic resources of the Sandy Basin.

Beaver Creek is the lowermost tributary of the Sandy River. The creek begins to flow from a spring near Dodge Park Blvd. It flows through Gresham and Troutdale, until finally it flows into the Sandy River about two miles before it meets the Columbia River, near Glenn Otto Park.
Coho, Chinook, and Steelhead are known to spawn in Beaver Creek. In a good year, Beaver Creek can produce up to 9% of the juvenile Coho salmon in the Sandy River Basin!

We are so proud of our Leadership Team for helping to create such a big environmental impact on our community! It has been too long since they have had the opportunity to give back, and they absolutely loved doing what they did today. Thank you for being amazing role models Leadership Team! For reminding us that there is more to being a Martial Artist than just kicking and punching, thank you for representing what USWC is all about!

Huge shout out and thank you to the Sandy River Watershed Council for allowing us to be a part of this great event today!

"It's only been two-and-a-half salmon generations in that 10 years, but even in two-and-a-half salmon generations, we're seeing more wild Chinook and more wild steelhead returning to the Sandy.”
- Steve Wise, Executive Director of the @solandconservancy and formerly of the @sandywatershed

🥳
Happy Earth Day!🤲🌱🌎🌍🌏
Let's grow a little today by learning to step up & show up for our planet! 🙏🤞🙏

Here are a few easy ways you can step outside of your comfort zone(s) to help Mother Nature:

▪︎REDUCE your own carbon footprint & trash; monitor your water/electricity consumption, compost or try going zero-waste for just 24 hours

▪︎REUSE anything you can; get creative!

▪︎REFUSE single use plastics, straws, cups, basically anything that you cannot Reuse or Recycle

▪︎RECYCLE what you can; this is a great place to start but remember that even the things we THINK are being recycled, usually are not..
find reputable companies that you can trust to ensure your recyclables are actually being recycled properly, like our friends over @gorecycleusa
[Use code: BTC15 for 15% Off]

▪︎READ! Do your research & educate yourself!
Some companies are now #GreenWashing products & services, while others are really dedicating massive amounts of time, energy & resources into ensuring they are using only the most natural & organic ingredients in their products! In cosmetics alone, the EU law bans 1,328 chemicals that are known or suspected to cause cancer, genetic mutation, reproductive harm or birth defects; while the U.S. FDA has only banned or restricted 11 chemicals.

Just imagine what is in our food!?! 🤯
It is time we start caring about what is going into & onto our bodies, we deserve it!

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish. Head to the link in our bio to listen to Burke Strobel, the Water Bureau's Senior Fish Biologist, describe a moonlit night counting trout in the Bull Run Watershed.

Counting fish is *slightly* more complicated than Dr. Seuss made it out to be.

#PleaseLeaveTheLeaves
・
Have you heard!?!
"Wildlife ranging from turtles and toads to songbirds, mammals and invertebrates rely on leaf litter for food, shelter and nesting material. Many moth and butterfly caterpillars overwinter in fallen leaves before emerging in spring. So please, Leave the Leaves!"

This is something that up until this post, we had no idea was even a thing and are 100% guilty (swipe right) for seeing a pile of leaves and just wanting to jump right in! Who doesn't...!?! 😉🍂🍁

#AwarenessIsTheKeyToChange
it is much harder to turn a blind eye to something when you are aware of it and we are moving forward this year with a new found perspective to #LeaveLeavesAlone

This may "only be" #OneSimpleChange but it is these small #ActsOfChange that spark greater change worldwide. Who is with us!?! 🙋‍♀️
