book, music, & lyrics by irene sankoff & david hein @sankoffandhein

From March 17, 2017 to October 2, 2022, the magnificent musical "Come From Away" ran eight times a week at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Broadway. And in each of those performances, during the number "Screech In," the band "brought out an 'ugly stick,'" a traditional, homemade folk percussion instrument unique to Newfoundland and Labrador. Thanks to our wonderful friends Irene Sankoff and David Hein, it now lives in our house. We are the luckiest come from aways!

Fourteen chairs. Endless possibilities 🌍🪑

A plane. A school. A bus. A town. A community.

One of the most remarkable things about Come From Away is watching 14 chairs transform into an entire world through movement, storytelling, and imagination. Scene by scene, formation by formation, our company continues to shape something truly special.

As @windsorlight celebrates its 150th major musical production and we mark the 25th anniversary year of 9/11, I’m still so honoured to help bring this extraordinary story to the @chryslertheatre stage.

Tickets are already 75% sold out. I am not saying this to cause panic, but if you want to witness this extraordinary production, now is your chance.

Still buzzing from Thelma & Louise at the Young Vic! 🚘💨🛘

@amyflorencelennox and @racheltucker01 were absolutely electric! Their chemistry sold that iconic bond so effortlessly, and the entire company completely delivered.

As if the show itself wasn’t enough, the theatre universe decided to treat us to an unexpected Come From Away moment too! Had the loveliest chat with @theatricallydia about her recent Pay it Forward trip to Gander, swapped travel stories with fellow audience members who also fell in love with Newfoundland through the show, and then met David Hein afterwards!

Talk about an unforgettable night 💚

Our last week of @comefromawaygander was…. epic!!

What a wonderful summer away! Stunning sites and standing ovations. It was an incredibly fulfilling adventure in Gander and all over the Rock! Some of the most gorgeous sites I’ve ever seen, the most generous humans I’ve ever met, and some of the most fulfilling moments onstage with my stupendously stellar fellow company members and crew! 👏🏾

I love you Canada. I love you Gander. I love you #comefromaway 💙💛
To tell this tale in the town it took place, for the 25th Commemoration of #911 , alongside my original Broadway castemate @petrinabromley …I am fulfilled with light, love, peace and gratitude.

Huge thank you to @mrubinoff for having me, and to @jillkeiley for leading us all to such success!! (This production and season was so many fans’ favorite version….EVER! 🤫😂🙏🏾).

Bye bye Bob. Revisiting you on the Gander NL stage is a creative moment I will never forget. 👋🏾

Last night, Loukoumi Foundation Advisory Board member, Judy Abrams invited us to the 25th-anniversary 9/11 concert performance of the award-winning musical Come From Away at the Perelman Performing Arts Center, next to the 9/11 Memorial.

Having seen the show seven times, this emotional and triumphant performance felt like the first. @wecomefromaway tells the remarkable story of more than 7,000 airline passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, after U.S. airspace closed on 9/11 — and the extraordinary kindness shown to these “plane people” by the people of Gander.

Our Loukoumi journey with Come From Away began eight years ago when Judy said, “We need to do something together.” That “something” became the Loukoumi Foundation’s first Inspiring Stories book in partnership with CFA. We met Gander Elementary School, Chris Hillyard and students whose essays were published. In 2019, Gander Elementary became our first international Loukoumi school, inspiring our first international Loukoumi Good Deed Bus— a tradition now celebrating its eighth year. And yes, having traveled there twice, the people of Gander really ARE that nice!

The ripple effect has been extraordinary: young authors meeting the Broadway cast, seeing the show in New York and Belfast, and having Gander students attend our NY Good Deed Summit with producers helping with travel costs. We established a Never Forget letter mailbox in Gander and delivered 1,000+ “Never Forget” letters for families who lost loved ones on 9/11 which are in a private room at the 9/11 Memorial.

So grateful to Judy, Sue Frost, @randyjydforgot_ @sankoffandhein, the entire Come From Away family, and the wonderful people of Gander for making this journey so meaningful. If you have not seen the show you must on Apple TV. And as the show’s song goes, a part of Loukoumi will always reside in Gander and we are forever grateful to be a small part of the CFA family.

COME FROM AWAY
September 13, 2026

Come From Away is such a special show to me and the world, and to be able to see this special one night only concert to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 was such an incredible experience. Adding to the experience was the fact that the Perelman Performing Arts Center sits across the street from the World Trade Center campus, where the concert would have been held had it not rained.
Still, to see this material performed once again by people from all different productions was an experience I’ll not soon forget, and, as always, I can’t wait to see this show again!
*For those counting, this was my 12th time seeing the show!

On one of America’s darkest days, a small community in Newfoundland showed the world the very best of humanity. ❤️

When U.S. airspace shut down on September 11, 2001 - nearly 7,000 stranded passengers were diverted to Newfoundland - where Canadians opened their homes, their hearts, and their lives to complete strangers...

Their remarkable true stories inspired the Broadway musical @wecomefromaway.

On Sunday - former Broadway and national tour company members of COME FROM AWAY will reunite at @pac_nyc - part of the World Trade Center campus - to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

Meet some of the real people behind the show - ordinary people whose extraordinary acts of kindness, compassion, and courage remind us what it means to come together when it matters most.
