There’s a flyer circulating about the Main Street parking lots that has raised understandable questions. Here are the facts: the City has no plans to issue an RFP, and the development concept shown in the flyer has never been discussed. The lots were identified through the state-required Housing Element process. That does not mean a project has been proposed or approved. The image is AI-generated, not a City rendering.

Please keep asking questions and seeking accurate information. Transparency matters, and I’ll share verified updates with the community.

🦪 A new seafood shack by the sea—with deep Santa Monica roots.

For our September issue, we visit @westsideoysterclub, the latest venture from Santa Monica locals @santamonicagreg and @kimchiavocado , the family behind longtime Pier institution The Albright.

The restaurant has taken over the former Blue Plate Oyster space on Ocean Avenue, preserving its beloved coastal character while adding personal touches that pay homage to Santa Monica’s surf, skate and seaside history.

On the menu: East and West Coast oysters, lobster rolls, seafood towers, caviar (even to go!), key lime pie and sunset cocktails—all with an ocean view.

But at its heart, West Side Oyster Club is a story about family, community and carrying a local legacy forward.

AB 1679 will require cities and counties to create a pathway for temporary commercial activations — Pop-Ups — opening the door to a new era for small business in California.

We have no shortage of entrepreneurs ready to bring life back to vacant storefronts. What we lack is ACCESS.

AB 1679 creates the building blocks to change that — giving small businesses a chance to test an idea, activate an empty space, and become part of a neighborhood without the enormous cost and RED TAPE of opening a permanent location.
