Every trade has its traditions...

Ours involves the ceremonial sacrifice of a Reflex mop 🔥

This time performed by @sapphorocks and witnessed by Vanessa.

It used to be my trademark encore, but it's been a while. Rumour has it the flames may return soon, especially with *Bridging the Skills Gap* landing in the hands of @heritagecrafts members.

Some lessons are best learned the memorable way.

My **last polishing masterclass of the year** is nearly full.

Only **2 places left** for bench polishing with @foredomelectric @workshop.925

Once those spots are gone, that's it for 2026.

As for next year? Well, I'm leaving it to the One-Eyed Man.

A silver box maker joined today's polishing class.

Eight sides.

Because six clearly wasn't complicated enough... 😅

Every face polished, every edge refined, every challenge accepted.

That's where the magic happens. ✨

**Spot the new matt cover on my book! 😜**

It does make me smile because it used to be *Shiny*... which, considering it's a polishing book, feels like a bit of an inside joke! 💍✨

It must have gone rather international these days too, as I noticed it now carries USA 🇺🇸 and Canada 🇨🇦 barcodes on the back. The price has also gone up... and before anyone asks, that has absolutely nothing to do with me! 😂

Last week I spent a week in South Ockendon. Not the most glamorous of addresses, perhaps, but it hides a real gem: **@sapphorocks**.

I was there teaching for **@HeritageCrafts**, helping to resurrect an interest in the often-overlooked art of polishing. Was I successful? Only time will tell, but judging by the enthusiasm in the room, the future looks promising. ✨

**What's occurring?**

A new stage has begun, I am not done yet!

Every student learns the basics first. No shortcuts. No cheating. Just solid foundations built the right way.

We start with **Lump Pumice** and the legendary **Water of Ayr stone**.

🔹 **Water of Ayr (WOA)**
The darker charcoal-grey stone. Ultra-fine, around 9,000-11,000 grit, producing a beautifully refined finish.

🔹 **Tam O'Shanter (TOS)**
The lighter speckled stone. A fine hone that cuts a little slower than Water of Ayr, perfect for developing control and patience.

In polishing, it's not about rushing to the finish line. It's about understanding every stage of the journey.

Master the basics, and the basics become mastery.

✨ Magic FlyAwayMop ✨

Donna is deaf, so we swapped spoken cues for shoulder taps and lip reading. The result? Perfect rhythm and a beautifully polished copper bowl. 👏

Thanks to @heritagecrafts Bursary Scheme, supported by the @goldsmithsfoundation.

**Dan the Man loves polishing! 🔥**

What a week!

Thanks to the **@heritagecrafts Bursary Scheme**, 10 students joined me at **@sapphorocks** for a week packed with polishing, learning and plenty of workshop banter.

From beginner tips to professional finishing techniques, I've shared more than a few tricks of the trade. Seeing the students grow in confidence and skill has been the best part.

The future of our heritage crafts is looking bright... and beautifully polished. ✨👏

Stepping into the afterglow of London Fashion Week with our latest pieces.
Our model showcases the Wave Necklace—its fluid lines echoing the gentle ripple of water—paired effortlessly with the Optical Cuff.
I’m very pleased to have just completed a polishing masterclass with @goldpolisher at @sapphorocks , supported by @heritagecrafts ; both the necklace and cuff now shine with absolute precision.
A tribute to contemporary craftsmanship, where design meets timeless elegance.
