📢 Announcing the winners of the CMAS Sam Z. Coronado Poster Art Contest! 🎨🏆 The Center for Mexican American Studies and Latino Studies are proud to celebrate the winners of this year’s poster art contest, centered on the theme: ¡Adelante! 🚀✨ The theme encouraged students to incorporate images of progress & resilience in their creations. We announced the winners at our annual Spring semester back-to-school event "Celebración" on Tuesday. 🥇 1st Place: Alexis Martinez (Senior, MALS & Psychology) 🥈 2nd Place: Lorena Diosdado (2nd year graduate student, Art History & Studio Art) 🥉 3rd Place: Sara Sanchez (Freshman, Studio Art) Swipe through to meet the artists and see their designs, plus learn the personal inspiration behind the first-place winning piece! Last slide: that's four-year-old Alexis being lifted by her father into the air. She tells us this photo symbolized the way her parents unwaveringly supported and encouraged her throughout her childhood and as a first-gen college student. ¡Adelante! is real. ➡️🎭🖌️ Thank you to all the talented students who submitted their work! The winning designs will soon be displayed in the Latino Studies student lounge GWB 2.300 for the coming year. Feel free to drop by! Sam Z. Coronado (1946-2013) was an influential Austin print-maker who created artwork that represented the experiences of undervalued communities. During his career he became a Chicano art movement icon and a mentor in the Austin artistic community and beyond the Texas border. CMAS honors Coronado's legacy through the annual student poster art contest. The designers of the top three posters receive cash awards awarded by a community jury and CMAS affiliates. Go to link in bio to learn more about this annual contest open to all UT students. #hookem #ut26 #ut25 #ut27 #ut28 #latinostudies #liberalartsut #utaustintx
