before my wedding I started to get interested in picking up calligraphy. then, our honeymoon to japan inspired me deeper. this calligraphy writing workshop in dublin came at the perfect time. and it was my first (definitely not last) time at @segotia_dublin.

Whether you’re a lover of lettering or you simply want to learn a new skill, join calligrapher @sarahodea in learning the basic techniques of creative calligraphy.

You'll start by learning how to use your pen holder and nib, while discovering how to mix your own ink and what materials work best for what you want to create.

Then, you will explore mark-making exercises, making shapes and strokes, before moving on to letter forms and basic alphabet strokes. Once you have the basics, you’ll work on flourishing the letters by writing out quotes, lyrics, or whatever your chosen message might be.

By the end of the workshop, you will have started to develop your own calligraphy style, allowing for plenty of time to practice and one-to-one help from Sarah. As well as developing skills, you will also leave with your own calligraphy starter kit so you can continue your practice after the workshop.

As we settle into the cosy season of Samhain, this is the perfect moment to lean into the creative habits that light up the darker months. Calligraphy also makes for thoughtful, personal gifts, so there’s no better time to try your hand at calligraphy ahead of the Christmas period, so you can create something a little different for your loved ones this year.

Supper Stories at Chupi! ✨️

Last month, I was invited to an intimate evening at @chupi HQ, a tertulia that brought together a small group of women working across the Irish wedding industry.

It was thoughtfully hosted by Chupi Sweetman, Studio Grace, Flower Pop and Folkster Bridal 🤍

The supper itself was catered by The Pepper Pot, a delicious dinner made with seasonal and locally produced ingredients. All this happened with conversations and inspiring stories around the table, with such openness in the room, everyone sharing ideas, experiences, and the realities of running creative businesses.

I also had the pleasure of creating the menus and hand-calligraphed place cards to complement the gorgeous tablescape by Grace Cahill, with the most beautiful flowers by Flower Pop. Each flower at the table was seasonal and grown in Ireland, which was very special to learn.

As a backdrop was a curated selection of bridal gowns by Folkster Bridal and of Chupi's distinctive jewellery.

I also got to meet in person for the first time @sarahodea a super talented calligraphy I admire and who has been always a reference in the idustry for many years. ✨️

I'm grateful to the hostess and everyone involved for creating the space for conversations and moments like this to happen. In an industry built around celebrating people, it's nice to be reminded that we can celebrate each other too.

I left feeling inspired, encouraged, and even more convinced that some of the best memories happen around a table! 🤍

Last week in @killruddery . A farmhouse dinner softened for @nextofficial summer set on horseshoe table. A huge thank you to The Kilruddey Cut floral studio who picked a fresh harvest in bucketfuls for the theme and helped me weave through bales of hay with bud vases that they layered within to keep stems hydrated and topped up throughout day. They have such a unique way of doing things and that’s what makes the place so special. A joy to be back in the grainstore again 🌾🤎 📷 @guirtds

We continued our Creative Communities project this afternoon with a beautiful calligraphy workshop with the very talented Sarah O’Dea https://sarahodea.ie/
alongside her parents Liz Rackard & Mick O’Dea.

We hope that this unique skill of calligraphy will be used to record information in ‘The Book of Killanne’.

All participants were delighted to take home their own calligraphy pen, ink & paper to practise with, alongside some carbon paper to take tracings of photos for the book, a day full of learning & upskilling for those who attended.

Lots of ideas, creativity, enthusiasm and so many memories shared after the workshops today, plenty of time for others to get involved too! We want this book to represent us all in Killanne!

A Day of Decorative Lampshade Painting at Eden Hall

I loved creating the ‘artists shared table’ themed menu and tablescape for our decorative lampshade painting workshop held here on Saturday. I used flowers, herbs and lettuces growing in the gardens at Eden Hall. The famous sourdough focaccia from @muelleroconnell_bakery also featured on the menu along with organic village milk and locally sourced vegetables. Our hens eggs make for delicious quiches too. This felt like an honest celebration of supporting local and growing your own combined with a day of creativity. It was a pleasure to open our home and create such a special day together. ✨

Guests arrived to rose refreshments and homemade rose marshmallows before wandering through the grounds in the sunshine, gathering inspiration for their designs. We then settled into the Granary Kitchen to begin creating our beautiful lampshades.
Lunch was served in the formal dining room, where I shared some of the history of Eden Hall along with the interior design stories behind the rooms.
The afternoon was spent painting, chatting, and enjoying the creative process together. Everyone left with hearts full, a new skill learned, and a one-of-a-kind lampshade to take home.
Thank you to Sarah for sharing her knowledge, creativity and adding her wonderful touch to the menu ✨ And to our lovely guests for bringing such warmth and good cheer on the day ❤️
