It’s the last day of July which means… it’s time to announce our July picks of the month :) Blair MacMillan is our Top Performer of the month, we had the pleasure of seeing her perform in Ladies Day at Video Cabaret Theatre during the Toronto Fringe Festival. Her performance was mesmerizing, it was nuanced and pure and she made us laugh and warmed our hearts. We can’t wait to see what she does next! Our top script of the month is Orbit by @sarinisaurus dramaturgy by @miriamsossin … this script is relevant, smart, innovative, and astoundingly raw. To write a two hander in which 95% of the show they are not in the same space is a difficult task, but Playwright Sarini Kumarasinghe makes it look easy. This play explores the complexities of being human, living in our economy, and the many flaws of the immigration system through a brilliant sci-fi dystopian world. We can’t wait to see where this script goes next! Karl the cat and the Junkyard Pack by @playdoughproductions was our top show of the month, it is an adult puppet show that explores the complexity of discovering identity and feeling confident in one’s own skin and space. The music was well crafted, the puppetry was some of the best we’ve seen, and the story made us cry and laugh and everything in between. If you ever have the chance to catch this show in a future rendition we highly recommend it! (Photo by @maggiestempt) Looking forward to another great month of theatre this August !!!

Hanging up the headset... It always takes me a little time to process a play after it’s over. Thanks to all the wonderful people who came out and saw Orbit at @toronto_fringe !!! Thanks to @sarinisaurus for writing such a killer script, and everyone @waxwingtheatreco for pouring their hearts into this show. Also, shoutout to the eight great productions I saw this year! 110% Wizard, Potato Potato Saves the World, Afeni, Will and the Amazingly Obsessive Vinyl Collection, Ladies Day, The Last Vampire, God Save the Sodomites, and Little One. A very solid year of fringing! Lastly, I’ve heard actors need to get better at extraverting our skills in this the year 2026, and I’m not gonna join TikTok…. Soooo here’s some of the critics’ feedback we got during and after the festival! “Orbit is a well-written, well-crafted, and well-acted play that I hope finds a life beyond Fringe.” Intermission Magazine “The simple yet compelling staging, accompanied by the expert acting, transports the audience to two places at once.” NNNN, NextMag “Ivy Miller and Will King give stunning performances as Roe and The Agent.” A View from the Box “Where the show really shines is in the rapport between Miller and King, who remain in separate spaces throughout but forge a meaningful connection anyway. King movingly portrays The Agent’s growing compassion and horror as he begins to run out of options… A Fringe gem.” Broadway World “Kumarasinghe’s script is funny, fast, sad, and topical without hitting you over the head with it and Ivy Miller and Will King’s performances are lived-in and well-paced.”  A-, MyEntWorld “The acting here is phenomenal. Their performances are heartfelt, earnest, and deeply human. The text is delivered with so much care that I fully believed these people were going through what they were going through.” A+, The Extra Mile “The performances by this production’s two-person cast are stellar (or should I say interstellar). It was easy to see why Orbit won Toronto Fringe’s audience and volunteer pick awards, earning it an extra night in the Factory Theatre Studio Space.” Northern Arts Perspective Thanks for the ride. See you next time @factorytheatre. ✌️

The @toronto_fringe production of “Orbit”, though set on distant planets has themes searingly relevant on Earth. And, think it sucks to be put on hold on a customer service line? “ Orbit” explores what that feels like on a space ship. Our 4-N review at linkinbio
