What do artists in Calgary look like?…Expressive. ⭐️

A little look at some of the faces I’ve painted so far for my Calgary Creatives series.

I’m still indefinitely accepting submissions, with a few more faces already on deck. I’m taking a short break from these while I work on some larger pieces this month, but I’m always looking for new portrait references.

Visual artists, actors, poets, musicians, makers… send me your expressive faces.

📌See my pinned post for details

There’s absolutely no pressure or expectation to purchase your portrait, although you definitely have first dibs. This project is about building a body of work, painting interesting faces, and connecting with Calgary’s creative community.

So, Calgary creatives: keep the faces coming.

Meet Scott Clark — a talented Visual Artist | Muralist | Creative Connector. Scott Clark is a Calgary-born visual artist whose vibrant, eclectic style blends influences from Fauvism to queer pop art. With over 20 public murals—including works for the Calgary Stampede and the 2023 Alberta Summer Games—Scott brings bold imagination and radical optimism to every project. Identifying as gay, Pan, demi, autistic, and proudly neurodivergent, his art becomes a powerful medium for connection, empathy, and self-expression. Check out some of the Community-Run Public Art Microgrant projects that have been completed so far this year. Recognizing that impactful public art often begins as grassroots ideas, this program encourages community-led organizations in Calgary/Mohkinstsis to create public art experiences in collaboration with local artists — everything from murals to community workshops. Learn more about our public art programs by visiting our website! #yycArt #yycpublicart Large mural by Rawry & Pohly featuring Bianjing Gate to the City, green trees and pathways on a pale yellow background, and a person in an orange safety vest staring at the mural.

Yesterday I got to paint a mural alongside @saronspark as a painting assistant on his mural @shop_northland. The mural is progressing so well and is getting closer to being done. So many people driving by commented on how awesome it was to see art there. Thank you Scott for the gift of painting with you and hearing all your insight one artist to another. I cannot wait to see it finished.
