🏳️‍🌈 WHY PRIDE STILL MATTERS IN THE UK & GLOBALLY🏳️‍⚧️

TW: this post contains upsetting and distressing imagery and information. Please be mindful.

Hey folks, I wanted to share a little bit of an updated post I shared back in 2021 on why Pride still matters.

Nearly 6 years later and I look and think have things gotten better? Have times changed?

I’d like to say yes. There are improvements in certain areas. BUT you only have to look at the news, read Queer people’s stories online and get a feeling of the current state of the UK to see that things aren’t any better.

The continued targeting towards trans people EVERY SINGLE DAY is abhorrent and yet… it’s normalised. A tv presenter can go on live T.V and say awful things about trans people and nobody stands up and says NO.

A young gay man can lose his life and the police would rather say it’s drug related rather than looking into whether something else could’ve been involved.

Queer couples STILL walk down the street and don’t hold hands for FEAR of being abused or having insults hurled at them.

Trans people face being barred from toilets they have been using for years thanks to the scaremongering and misinformation by the likes of a rent a gob children’s author.

The far right and right wing political thugs in the UK have now jumped on the bandwagon; demanding Pride to be cancelled and flags set on fire or libraries to take down anything that mentions being LGBT. Sound familiar?

So these are just some of the reasons why Pride still bloody matters.

It’s not going anywhere.

The move, which comes at the start of Pride Month, has been described by campaigners as “disturbing”, warning it could have wider implications for inclusion and local engagement.

I was tagged by the lovely @secretworldofabook to do a Throwback and I found this on my camera roll ⁣

I was reading The Three by @lotzwriting ⁣
⁣
This book was my first and sadly only book group read as I couldnt commit any longer. I absolutely loved this book, completely out of my comfort zone, sci fi mystery thriller dystopian all mixed together. Incredible. ⁣

"A voice message left on a phone from a woman believed to be the only adult surviving of a deadly plane crash. The message she leaves changes the world. A day that will never be forgotten. 4 plane crashes, all at exactly the same moment in different points around the globe. The message is a warning, a warning about a boy"⁣

This bookmark was given to me at my local libraries book sale in the summer. I had taken my children with me, and picked up over 20 books. I was approached and asked how on earth I make the time to read them all? As I was paying, a volunteer approached me with this, she had asked my daughter my name, and told me i was super mum.⁣
⁣
Those words have stayed with me. I am far from a super mum but I guess it does take skill to read as many as I do, with 2 little ones.⁣

There are so many lovely places to go in #Essex to write a letter to Santa, but we thought we’d support one of our local libraries and go to their event today. J loved using the pens & Xmas stampers, although he definitely had a little help writing his letter, he was so excited to post it to Santa 🎅. The library also had a picture hunt, so we headed round with our picture paper and once we’d found them all, J got to choose a prize....a satsuma or a chocolate coin... what do you think he chose?🤔 .
.
.
There are loads more Christmassy events taking place in #EssexLibraries... I’ll add some to my stories 😃

Library Morning...
Libraries are one place that to me remains magical and the best bit is they're free!
Hundreds of books and every one of them costs you nothing but your time.
I hope we will always have this luxury!

A new book dropped around #colchester town centre- if you’ve found a copy (you lucky thing) let us know with #bookfound. Some copies nationwide contain a special gold envelope too! 🤞
About the book:

Adam's sister, Sarah has been missing for seven years, but he hasn't given up hope of finding her. He is a sculptor and lives with his bedridden father who is a bully and a curmudgeon. One morning, as the anniversary of Sarah's disappearance nears, Adam receives a letter from her and she is apparently alive and well, living in New York. Adam travels to Brooklyn to search for Sarah as he's desperate to see her, but she seems determined to avoid him. Sarah's letters arrive weekly, but she continues to remain elusive. Adam is perplexed by Sarah's requests for secrecy, as is his father and his girlfriend, Cassandra. He is determined to find her, whatever the cost to his wellbeing, health and sanity.... #ibelieveinbookfairies #sarahletters #urbane #danproops #lfsbookfairies
