Thanks @lit.aud for tagging me in the #spookyseasonTBR book stack challenge! Although I must confess, I cheated a little with this one because only the top one is on my TBR and rest are books I’ve read 🙈

My stack:
📚 Winter Counts by David Heska Wanbli Weiden
📚The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager
📚 The Guest List by Lucy Foley
📚 Cross Her Heart by Sarah Pinborough
📚 No Exit by Taylor Adams

👻 I’m an occasional thriller reader and tend to pick them as a BOTM when I’m in the mood for a change of genre. I like thrillers that pull you in from the start and keep you guessing until the end! What about you? Are you a fan of thrillers?

YOU GUYS. Fall is ~almost~ here (thank god) and I CAN’T WAIT. I’m so excited for crisp fall air, and leaves falling, and apple cider ❤️ Buuuut we’re not quite there yet. So when @poursandpages created this #PretendItsFallStack challenge, I knew I had to try it out! ⁣
⁣
1. A red, orange, or yellow cover (or all 3!) ⁣
* Duh, I did all three! The Hate U Give, Crazy Rich Asians, and Head Over Heels!⁣
⁣
2. A cover that evokes cozy vibes⁣
* I kind of struggled with this one, but Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating has a gorgeous sunset on the cover, and sunsets are the coooziest to me!⁣
⁣
3. A title that reminds you of fall ⁣
* The Girl He Used to Know gives me HUUUGE fall vibes, both in the cover and the actual book! I can just imagine leaves falling around them 🍁 ⁣
⁣
4. A cover with leaves on it⁣
* To Kill A Mockingbird, aka one of my favorite books of all time. And I found this used edition with this gorg cover, so it was a win win all around!⁣
⁣
5. Bonus - pair the stack with your favorite fall book sleeve and/or candle! ⁣
* Welllll I don’t have a fall book sleeve, but Brian’s mom was able to find me this ‘Crisp Fall Night’ candle so there we go 🤣⁣
⁣
I’ve tagged a few lovely ladies to check this stack out and try it themselves (it might be harder than you think!)⁣

Also!! This is my first ever non-square photo on this account so we’ll see if I stick with that or not 🤣

Hello lovelies! 🧡🤍Thank you to the lovely Brigitte @brigittesbookshelf for tagging me in the #suffragestack challenge. She included many facts, and I decided to continue sharing about women’s history. ✨This stack is made up of purple, white, and yellow books in honor of the US women’s suffrage movement.
💛

On August 26, it makes the 100th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.

The women’s suffrage movement began in 1848 at the Seneca Falls Convention where leaders such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton worked towards giving a voice to women in politics. Stanton wrote the Declaration of Sentiments, which mirrors the structure of the Declaration of Independence, in an effort to demand equality through stating the grievances that women faced, and how the law must be changed. Women in the US and UK protested, lobbied, marched, went on hunger strikes, and demanded for women’s suffrage to participate in politics!

There was also racism prevalent during this movement, and this aspect should not be forgotten. We must acknowledge that women’s suffrage was limited to white women, and Black women and men were excluded. Black women and men gained the right to vote after the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed. Asian Americans were also excluded due to the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, which denied citizenship to Chinese immigrants up until 1943. Dr. Mabel Ping-Hua Lee advocated for women’s suffrage in New York City, despite not being included in the 19th Amendment when it was passed.

This year, it’s so important to exercise our right to vote in order to influence change! 🤍

Continue learning and talking about the complexities of women’s history! Feel free to leave some facts!! xoxo
