The costume is the easy part. The face, the mask, and the character are the parts people remember — and all three are somebody's actual craft. Face Paint Fantasy | Boston Face Painting (Salem) — Jenny Abarca's team does face and body paint, glitter art, airbrush tattoos, and henna, all with FDA-approved hypoallergenic products. Halloween parties, birthdays, quinceañeras, corporate events. Bilingual artists, Salem studio, travels around Greater Boston. Scared of my Shadow (Lowell) — Alisa Sickora has run her leather mask atelier since 2015, building performance objects for theatre, film and immersive work. She once sculpted a life-sized decaying horse for an attraction in Pennsylvania. These are not costume-shop masks. History Alive (Salem) — a nonprofit historical theater company since 1992. In Cry Innocent: The People Versus Bridget Bishop: you don't watch the 1692 examination; you sit on the jury. 45 minutes. The arrest happens outside, 15 minutes before the show. October performances sell out, so get there early. Halloween is on a Saturday this year. Still time to book a face, commission a mask, or go watch people who've been doing the character work since 1992. All three are Creative Collective members — find them in the directory at creativecollectivema.com. #CreativeCollectiveMA #SalemMA #NorthShoreMA #ShopLocal #SupportLocalArtists #Halloween2026 Promotional poster for "The Costume Edition: The Face, The Mask, The Character" by Creative Collective, featuring diverse costumed individuals against a gradient background with abstract shapes.

Spooky Doings Social Club was one of those projects where I knew it was going to be a little different. They host gatherings in Lowell centered around the creepy and the strange. The challenge was figuring out how to bring some of that weirdness into the website without making it tacky or confusing. We ended up having a lot of fun with the details and researching the photos. There’s even a card game that serves absolutely no practical purpose other than making the website feel more like Spooky Doings, and I think that’s part of what makes it work. Underneath all of that, it still needed to be a functional event website. People need to understand what Spooky Doings is, see what’s happening next and how they can support. This was also one of those projects where the clients trusted me enough to experiment and make some weird decisions along the way. Those are usually the projects where I end up doing some of my favorite work. The finished site feels like you’re getting an introduction to the world of Spooky Doings before you ever show up to an event, which was exactly what we wanted. Website design and development by Draft Studios. Websites for artists, by artists.

LDG invites the public to our New England Regional Juried Exhibit & 12th Annual Poetry Convergence. Inspired by the ancient phrase Inter Canem et Lupum-Between Dog and Wolf – this regional juried exhibit explores the space where certainty gives way to ambiguity. Through painting, sculpture, photography, fiber art, ceramics, and mixed media, artists examine the interplay of light and darkness, comfort and tear, and the known versus the unknown. Together, these works invite viewers to embrace transition, question perception, and discover the creative possibilities that emerge when familiar boundaries begin to blur. ‼️Opening Reception: October 3rd, 3 – 5 PM 12th Annual Poetry Convergence Live Poetry Reading Inspired by Artists’ Works: 5-7 PM
