I can’t wait to read this beautiful book by @scatteredjules and share with you what I think. The premise sounds amazing! Red and Goldi are rivals and both love the same boy. When Red goes into the cursed forest in search of her younger sister, will Goldi help or hinder her search? Red’s path is quickly tangled with jealousy, secrets, and impossible choices. Julie Wright cleverly blends these famous fairytales into a unique story with a brave heroine, magic, rivalry turned friendship, & a touch of romance. From a conniving mother to dangerous forest creatures, I was on the edge of my seat as Red tries to save her sister from a sleeping sickness & thwart her mother’s ambitious plans! Red Grimshaw’s disdained by her mother, who favors her beautiful sister, Kristell. To advance her position in society, their scheming mother plots to marry Kristell off to a ruthless nobleman, but Kristell’s in love with someone else & runs away, only to be bitten by an ice snake & fall into a permanent sleep. Desperate to save her beloved sister, Red seeks out her grandmother, rumored to wield forbidden magic. Armed with only her grandmother’s magical red cape, Red journeys into the forest with her spoiled rival, Goldi, & the handsome Carrigan Woods, whom they both love. As they face deadly creatures, dangerous plots, & strange magic, their friendship grows, & Red might just find the happily ever after she doesn’t think she deserves. I thoroughly enjoyed this story! As a huge fairytale fan, I loved how the author wove these familiar tales together with her own unique spin. Red’s mother is absolutely awful & her father is spineless! I was on pins & needles hoping she’d survive all her mother’s terrible machinations. I loved watching Red & Goldi’s rivalry turn from enemies to friends as they grew & gained new respect for each other. I also enjoyed the romance between Red & Carrigan. It’s clear Carrigan only has eyes for Red, but she’s so loyal & selfless, almost to a fault. I was hoping she’d learn to seek her own happiness along with everyone else’s! I loved learning the realm’s history & discovering the truth about Red’s family. The fierce battles with magical creatures & nail-biting conclusion kept me quickly turning the pages! For readers looking for a no-spice dark fairytale retelling. ✨ Threads of Red by Julie Wright @scatteredjules This was a much darker, more intense fairytale retelling than I expected! That being said, it was one of those books that was hard to put down. The magical fairytale atmosphere, danger at every turn, race to save her sister, and ALL the mysteries/secrets kept me turning the pages. Romance: The romance takes more of a backseat to the adventure and the girls’ evolving relationship. And be prepared for ALL the love triangle drama! (Don’t worry, no cheating involved). This book is a story about love, loyalty and discovering secrets about yourself and others. I’ve always been a fan of fractured fairy tales and this one interweaves Little Red Riding Hood and Goldi-locks in the most beautiful way. Powerful storytelling combined with compelling story—it’s the perfect witchy read for October!

🌙Fantasy Friday🌙 Thank you so much @shadowmountainpub for my gifted copy! Threads of Red by @scatteredjules Available now! I’ve read a lot of retellings over the years, so it’s always fun when I come across one that manages to show me something new! I loved the mashup of Red Riding Hood and Goldilocks, and it was fun picking up little pieces of other fairytales along the way. The magic system was great, and the woods were exactly what I picture when I think of a fairytale setting. Loreda was a really interesting character, and I enjoyed watching her navigate the life she was given. Even with everything going wrong and the way she was treated, she stayed true to herself. But the real standout for me was the friendship between Red and Goldie. Watching their relationship grow and transform was such a highlight, especially as they both grew individually while building their bond. Their banter felt natural and genuine, and I loved how entertaining their dynamic was. Goldie also really surprised me by stepping up when it mattered and proving she was so much more than what everyone expected of her. ⁉️QOTD: if you could conjure any fairy tale mashup into existence what would it be? #threadsofred #foryourtbr #youshouldreadthis #fantasyfriday

Review of THREADS OF RED by @scatteredjules Narrated by Emma Fay Thank you Partner @shadowmountainpub for the gifted copy. I listened to the audiobook on Deseret Bookself subscription Every time I read a new book from Wright it is my new favorite. Her writing is simply magical and this twisted fairytale retelling is stunning. The characters are excellent and I love how Goldilocks and Red Riding Hood are brought together in this story in a unique and satisfying way. Red is such a great character. I loved her strength and determination. One character in particular surprised me and I enjoyed her journey and relationship with Red. I enjoyed the magic and the reason for entering the dark woods. All is creatively done. The audio narrator, Emma Fay, does a great job with the characters. She had to dig deep for the magical ones and I enjoyed the tone for those. Her performance was strong for each character. The twists and turns are exciting. I look forward to any book from this author and I can’t wait to see what is next. This one was wonderfully wimsical and spoke to my people pleasing heart. How much is too much to give for your dreams. Are they really yours if you have to change so much to chase them? Anders is golden retriever goals!! He had such a wonderful way of standing his ground without making it harder for her, or throwing guilt. Charloote has a wonderful way of embracing the emotions she is feeling without leaving the reality she is living in. Both of them have wonderfully adult flaws, not things like raging anger, distrust and tragic back stories, simpler real life flaws like, doubt, skeptecism, worry, and anxiousness! Chanting to myself that I have to let the good things happen to me. the bad ones will barge in and take up space, the good ones are waiting for me too.
