When they asked me to play the all-star season of Utah survivor I thought, “weird choice, why me?” Turns out, all I do is give hugs, giggle, cry a lil bit, and kick ass all the way to the final 4. 💜😎

CLOCKWORK🕰️🗝️🪞 Gotta dedicate a post to some of the snaps that @ianbowkettphotography got of this song at the @sondheimsociety Student Performer of the Year Competition cause girlie is going THROUGH it here!! In all seriousness though, I had a blast exploring this number and the complicated emotions of Constance from @theclockmakersdaughter musical by @webbornandfinn - if you haven’t listened to it yet do yourself a favour and head to your favourite streaming service because this score has some real gems✨ I find that the roles I often get cast in don’t always allow for the kind of deep anger Constance feels in this song, so it was truly a gift to get to portray those emotions here. A girl can only dream of seeing this show return someday!🤎🕰️

Thank you so much to our wonderful musical director @nigelilley for playing so beautifully, to assistant musical director @johnhaslam_ , who led us expertly through the detailed work of ‘Company’, @craig_legg_ and @hannahchissick for such wonderful direction, and @craigglenday and @tinabfoote and the rest of the SSSSPOTY Family for making us all feel so comfortable and supported throughout this crazy journey.

Finally, thank you so much to everyone at the @sondheimsociety for trusting me with this opportunity and believing in me as a performer. I am eternally grateful, and I truly had the best time ever💕 One for the scrapbooks!

STEPHEN SONDHEIM SOCIETY STUDENT PERFORMER OF THE YEAR 2026 (SONDHEIM THEATRE)

Let me start by saying SSSSPOTY day is like Christmas Day for me, only better. This is such a wonderful event (I’ve attended the past three now) in bringing together two of my great passions; Sondheim’s music and student MT. So, thank you to the Sondheim Society for making it happen each year.

This year’s winner was the superb Charlotte English with an emotional performance of Passion’s ‘I Read’. I actually think she went one better with her beautiful rendition of ‘The Sparrow’s Tale’ from Darren Clark’s The Wicker Husband (finalists must perform one new MT number also). Undoubtedly, a worthy winner of the prize and I look forward to attending her Sondheim-infused cabaret night later this year.

Charlotte had already wowed me a few months back with her vocals in Bird College’s all-female Jesus Christ Superstar. She was Jesus in it, sharing the split cast role with Taziva-Faye Katsande (who I sadly did not get to see).

But oh my goodness, did I see Taziva on Sunday! I loved her ‘Last Midnight’ and was on the edge of my seat throughout. That stunning performance earned Taziva second place behind Charlotte, in a show of Bird supremacy at SSSSPOTY 2026.

Another standout performer for me was Cait du Feu, who also sang a number from Passion. In Cait’s case, it was ‘I Wish I Could Forget You’. She did such an incredible job balancing her vocals with the acting performance that I fully expected her to secure a top three finish.

However, third place went to Rosie Sutton for her exhilarating ‘Getting Married Today’. There was a murmur in the room when host Bella Brown announced that is what Rosie would be signing but she totally nailed it. Not one fumble, no notes as they say.

Another highlight from the competition for me included Róisín Holland’s ‘Move On’. It was just so compelling and, as she reached the number’s crescendo, I thought we may have just witnessed the winning performance.

But that is the beauty of SSSSPOTY. The standard is often so high that it is impossible to predict a winner. Honestly, any of the 12 finalists would have been a worthy winner.
