maybe I just need to get out a little bit, clear my head… 💜

brisk autumn air and the wonderful people convening at @showlowfilmfestival brought me back to myself as a filmmaker, and sent me home with a few (tangible & intangible) gifts!

I’m sending out a Substack later today with a deep dive into this past month’s whirlwind of festivals (+more), but to add some context to this wonderful weekend:

@lavenderfieldsforeverfilm was awarded Best Cinematography, Best Music/Sound, Best Editing, Best Director, and Best Overall in shorts 7-12 min!

all films screened 3-4 times over the weekend, so by the end, nearly everyone present had seen LFF and got to share their thoughts with me.

I met filmmakers from multiple states and countries, got to meet a member of my virtual screenwriting group in person (@adsmallwood), and pitched LFF to Sunset Pictures (to whom I owe a f/u with the script).

I wrote this note at the end of the carousel, but in case the font is completely indescipherable:

relationships built on the film festival circuit are what make this craft sustainable long-term. we learn from each other, share connections and resources, inspire one another, and sometimes go on to become collaborators, friends, and cheerleaders.

it’s a grind. I miss my home. I sleep & eat like a feral animal, but I’m beyond grateful to experience my industry this way. on the ground, in regional communities where the most important (and relatable) stories get told.

look it up: where’s your local film fest? consider going for a block of short films or for a whole day. whether you love cinema or simply adore storytelling, I promise it’ll be an enriching experience.

more to come, check your email or subscribe to find out first 💋

We’re headed to @mtncraftfilmfest! 📽️

@lavenderfieldsforeverfilm will be reunited with cinematographer @currensheldon this weekend in Clarksburg, WV for our first Mtn Craft Film Festival!

It’s a six hour drive from Knoxville, passing through Abingdon, VA and New River Gorge (to name a few), and it’ll be my first time seeing WV beyond just passing through! Any recs are appreciated. 😁

Curious — have you (yes you, reading this) seen Lavender Fields Forever yet? Do you know the story? 💜
