I felt so happy watching my little boy working so hard at @kidzaniasgofficial , especially when he got hands-on at the @schoolofrobotics . He explored every possibility with such focus and excitement, proudly earning his kidZos along the way. How I wish he would carry this same spirit of curiosity, responsibility, and drive as he grows up.

Yesterday was a proud moment for many parents, and we felt that shared joy deeply. Watching Brayden on stage, my heart felt really warm. This little recognition isn’t just his alone, it comes from teachers guiding him, family supporting him, and many unseen efforts. Every small step he takes is lifted by so many hands.🤍

Big thanks to all of Brayden’s teachers, @funwithabacus for building his confidence with numbers, @bigideaz_edu for helping him find his voice in words, and @schoolofrobotics for inspiring creativity and problem-solving.

Back at @wro_singapore as the Chief Kenneth this year.

1 week before the event, @brennantanwr called me in the midst of chest and triceps day to come on board the event to help manage the transition of @wro.international RoboMission to an open platform competition (it used to be limited to @legoeducation platforms).

Thankfully, as someone without a real job, I could jump into a meeting with the other chief judges (shout out to Robin and John) that very afternoon to run through the slate of new rules.

We discussed them thoroughly, developed an understanding on how to enforce them in a way that was appropriate to the local scene, pre-empted potential scenarios, and standardised our responses to them.

Competition days were a lot more fun than usual. Devoid of bigger event-wide responsibilities, I got to banter with teams, all done in an attempt to have them understand how much of their work was done by their coaches, and how we expect them to do better year on year.

Unfortunately, once on the inside, I could not resist the temptation to Kenneth and ended up doing Kenneth things (like doing the venue turnarounds at night).

This meant that my teams at @coresg.tech did not have much of me over competition week again, which is always tough on them. That said, I use competitions to scaffold development, and am not too concerned about results (even if my track record may suggest otherwise) much to the annoyance of some of the parents/kids I work with.

WRO Singapore is perhaps the first event of this scale that has had the privilege of being designed by me back in 2023 when @spacefacultyasia took over as National Organisers (thanks @lynettetst for the trust).

I'm really pleased at how the foundations have anchored the growth of the event since.

The most important innovation was probably Mini Challenges (which I struck upon on 110223 and rebranded as Side Quests 190223, which was rebranded as Season Quests last year for reasons that continue to mystify me).

It's been a great vehicle for the development of our teams (technical and otherwise), connecting the community, and as a marketing instrument for SF.

Looking forward to seeing this child grow up!

[Supporting Team Singapore 🇸🇬]

From the beginning, I have outlined my vision for competitive robotics in Singapore and executed it through CORE.

This year, I am pleased to have partnered with @spacefacultyasia to take steps towards that vision through WRO Singapore.

We anticipated a small event with 20 teams back in January, and ended up an order of magnitude off.

Through conceptualising and executing Side Quests, running the event (crafting Surprise Missions, head judging RoboMission and RoboSports etc.) and our Instagram page, I would like to think that I am beginning to alter the trajectory of our robotics education scene and to raise the level of competitive robotics in Singapore beyond the students I mentor directly.

Because of this involvement, I feel connected to each participant and their support systems (coaches, schools, family) that have entrusted us to make this a worthwhile endeavour.

🇵🇦 Team SG in Panama

While I'm not mentoring any teams for the international finals this year (school rejected the invitation due to safety concerns), these are very much students whose journeys we have touched.

Our students have flown halfway across the globe to represent us in Panama with their teachers and family in tow.

Today marks their first day in competition.

Here's wishing them the very best as we savour the promises this new era holds.

Wrapping up Z1’s last month in 2SE200 at @schoolofrobotics 🤖✨

This month’s main project was the Claw Grabber, built using the same gears and motor from his previous sumo robot, but programmed for a completely different task.

🔧 What he worked on:
• Programming basic forward movement
• Controlling the claw — up/down and open/close — to grab and release objects
• Using the colour sensor to follow a line based on different colours
• Designing his own robot by applying what he has learned

It’s been amazing to watch his confidence grow as he learns how the same parts can be reused and programmed in new ways. A meaningful wrap-up before moving on to the next challenge 🚀

October was a big month for Z1 as he moved up to 2SE200 at @schoolofrobotics! 🤖✨

In this level, students explore robotics using LEGO® SPIKE™ Essential, learning colour sensors, gyro sensors, line tracing and simple conditional statements—building a solid robotics and coding foundation.

Here’s what he did in his first few lessons:
• Lesson 1: Built a robot to deliver a ball, and Z1 took the initiative to add an “arm” to trap and move it.
• Lesson 2 – Cube Collector: Learned the difference between passive and active attachments.
• Lesson 3: Programmed his robot to turn at specific angles to reach its destination.

Love seeing his creativity and confidence grow each week.

“Coding is like a language, it’s how we talk to the computer.”

Brayden said this while showing me his push-release robot. When the front bar hits a pallet, it tilts upward and the ‘goods’ slide forward on purpose, exactly the way he programmed it to.

Hearing him explain it in his own words made me realise how much he’s absorbing. Inside this one build, he’s actually learning:
• Mechanical design
• Motion control
• Logical coding

Love seeing him grow more and more confident in robotics with @schoolofrobotics

I’ve never seen Brayden so excited about going to class. Here’s a quick video of what he’s been building in his October robotics lessons at @schoolofrobotics! He’s been all smiles and is always asking when Friday will come for his next lesson. 😂

SOR’s holiday program is coming up!
