The rugby world is a small world, but filled with people who want to help each other and help rugby succeed. Today’s conversation with @oschwalger was a prime example of that. She was in Australia, I am in the UK, but we were able to come together to discuss (as women who work in the sport and mothers of rugby players) the US collegiate rugby scene and opportunities that exist for boys and girls in America. Too many of yall think you can tell the coaches where you want to play, that’s the quickest way to get cut!

Trust me when I say I did not want to play prop 👀 I’d played flanker my whole life, blarddy @nigelsolomonnz 😂 but THANK YOU!

I didn’t care, it was the position that got me on the field and so over the years I worked on learning and ended up starting for my country @wallaroosrugby 💚💛 it’s taken me around the world 🗺️ and I am forever grateful.

Do the same work hard, be consistent.

EARN YOUR KEEP
Before I even touched the bench, I already knew my role. A lot of young people today think they’re entitled to wear a jersey. Cuz no chance.

You earn your spot through the work you put in consistently day in and day out and even then, sometimes you still won’t get a minute. Be happy that at the end of it you can say “yeah I gave it my best shot” leave no regrets because this life isn’t for everyone. I sacrificed so much to get those jersey, I could have been better but I accept those decisions I made and I’m good with where I am at now.

I’ve dealt with politics and favourites, but the one thing nobody ever took from me was my belief in who I was as a person and as a player, even when I didn’t quite fit in.

When I was on, nobody could touch me and they knew it. I didn’t always get it right though. My mouth 😂 has been both my biggest strength and my biggest weakness.

I just wish I’d had the right mentors earlier, because that’s what I’d tell the young ones now: find someone outside the game who’s been there, done that and learn from them. They’ll save you a lot of time and heartbreak and honestly, I didn’t always listen either, but even today I’m still learning how to be better than I was yesterday.

Experience players you have so much to still give this next generation link up with your local you never know who you can inspire or save 🙏

YASSSS, the RED ❤️ tights. Since moving to Sydney, I’ve been coaching Maica and her parents at @scarred_lens_photography not only capture our journey but also raise the bar for our family and athletes with their powerful content at @schwalger.performance

What makes me proud isn’t just the talent, it’s the dedication. Sometimes you need to go beyond the ordinary to make people take notice. If my mane 🦁 wasn’t enough, or my aggression 👀 on the field, the red ❤️ tights became my trademark and even my sons carries that same mark forward.

I need to partner with a company and bring these back for yall 😉 ❤️

Never underestimate the power of one moment 🥹

Meeting an athlete as a child can shift the trajectory of a young life. A single encounter, one handshake 🫱🏻‍🫲🏾 one word of belief, can plant 🌱 a seed that changes everything.

Today, more than ever, we have athletes who look like us, speak like us, and come from where we come from 🏝️ 🌊 That visibility isn’t just representation, it’s transformation. These are role models who embody what’s possible.

Never forget: you are someone’s example. Someone’s future is watching how you move, how you show up, and how you lead.

We all have our backstories. That’s not what defines us. It’s what we do with them that leaves a legacy.

Your presence is power. Your influence is impact. Own it.

The biggest mistake I’ve seen is kids being pigeonholed into one sport too early. Let them try all summer and winter sports ⚾️🏉🏐🏈🏀🎾🥎⚽️🏸🏒🏏🪃 🏊🏽 🥅⛳️🛝🪁🥊🥋🎽 heck get them just outside climbing 🧗 trees and let their imagination 💭 run wild, because each one teaches different skills, builds confidence, and helps them discover their true passions.

These academies and camps are great, but for those who aren’t selected, don’t stress and take that pressure off them, let kids explore. You don’t want them to grow up hating being active because of unnecessary pressures.

The King of Speed 👑 @mrrogerfabri

When I first moved to Sydney, I had watched Rog coach so many female players—athletes I had played with and against. Most were backs, which I definitely was not 😂 But what truly sold me was seeing him train the @allblacks @sonnybillwilliams
I remember thinking “They’re coming to him for a reason”
And once I started training with him, I found that reason—a knowledge and passion that would later propel me into coaching others.

I still remember that first phone call.

Me: “I’m a prop.”
Rog: “I don’t give a f***, I’ll make you fast.”

That was all I needed to hear—I was in. Learning how to run properly didn’t just change my game; it extended my career longer than I ever expected. My partner, who had watched me play for years, told me I was playing my best footy in my mid-30s, and there I was, back in the @wallaroosrugby squad sadly my Achilles rapture 😭 ruled me out …that’s another story

Rog isn’t just a world-class coach; he’s one of the greatest mentors I’ve ever had. He’s the funniest 👀 🃏 man you’ll ever meet, brutally honest but fiercely loyal—he tells you what you need to hear, not just what you want to.

When I came to Sydney, I was on my own. Rog didn’t just coach me; he introduced me to some of the best athletes and legends of the game. He made me feel like family when mine was far away.

He opened my eyes to a whole new way of thinking about sport, lessons that would later help me launch @schwalger.performance

Find people who want to see you grow 🌱 Surround yourself with those who push you to be better.
