Five months in Guatemala! Super late editing these photos 😄 While there, I learned to speak Spanish, climbed my hardest rock climbs, learned how to salsa dance, and got back into hiking and running shape after surgery to fix a torn hip labrum. But what I think about most is the warm and generous people, many of whom are pictured here. I'm super happy I had five months to connect with the people and slowly learn their language and culture. I cooked many dishes with my teachers and local family, and talked with them about their history and values. I came away with a different point of view. It's hard to explain in short, but I've lived my whole life in one culture with certain beliefs and benefits. It was eye opening to experience a new way of life and hear their history. Without a long period living and talking with locals, many of them older, I would not have gained this. This broadened perspective is one of the biggest ways I've grown this year. Super grateful for this opportunity, and looking forward to living in this beautiful country again someday 😊

First 5.12 😁 La Visita del Halcón (first photo) A fantastic climb with a couple boulder cruxes. Vertical on volcanic rock. Been really enjoying climbing outdoors a couple times a week in Xela! Here are some fun shots over the past four months. Big thanks to Tete and Scott for the gear, muy amable! It's pretty cool how I've just consistently climbed and progressed roughly a letter grade each year since starting outdoors 5 years ago. Consistency and micro progressions is the name of the game! It's also been a great way to build strong friendships since you gotta talk about something on all the long road trips and while standing around in the woods with no cell service 😆

“They say, “No one’s gonna save you,” but I wish some one would try” — is a line in this song. A year or so ago someone told me this and at the time it kind of bothered me. Like obviously. But I’ve been thinking about it a lot, especially today, and I think the real issue is coming to a point in your life where you don’t think you’re worth saving and you aren’t strong enough or capable in that time to save yourself. So it feels like by finding someone else who could save you, you are actually finding someone who thinks you’re worth saving. I think the hard part in this process or grief and struggle is relearning to love yourself enough to become the person that thinks you are worth saving. And tbh it takes a long time and it’s easy to fall into negative self talk, low self esteem, and self hatred. It has been the biggest struggle for me in the past few years. So much that I have isolated myself and avoided genuine connection with people because I assume I either bother people or I’m just not likeable. Anyways. My point is that maybe instead saying a stupid troupe like “no one’s gonna save you” to someone who is clearly having a hard time. Maybe say something like “you are capable and worth saving” or “I believe in your ability to find all the reasons that you are worth loving again even though right now it might be hard to see them”… side note: I’m excited to play my first show with other musicians @new.h0use.123 and @sammarcwhitmer it’s been really fun getting to know them and practicing with them :-) thanks dudes!

#wcw goes to Scott Stevenson (he/him) this week! @scottstevnson - He was nominated because Scott sets tough goals and makes sacrifices to achieve them. He’s an incredibly well-rounded climber and excels at sport, alpine, trad, and bouldering. Recently he’s been putting in physical training hours as well as working on his mindset and outlook. He’s he’s climbing harder and more consistently this season than I’ve ever seen him. - Scott also just sent his second 12b at 10,000! Keep crushin Scott! 📷: Mike Sohm @sohmbody

Meeting new people and climbing new stones 🧗🏻‍♂️🌄🫐 . We travelled up to Lander this weekend for the International Climbers Festival. This was the first true sport climbing trip I ever went on, what a hoot! Not to mention, it was truly the best to meet and spend time with friends, just having met, having only met virtually, and having known for much of my life. When I was a kiddo, I used to always get bummed out when summer camp ended and everyone went their separate ways, I thought I’d feel that way this past Sunday. I realize now that this is one of the first times that I’ve realized that this is only the beginning of so many new friendships and adventures. Thank you to everyone who made this trip amazing, I’m so stoked for the future 🌮 . #climbing #life #yosemite #outdoors #California #summer #travel #mountain #camping #love #adventure #photo #camera #backcountry #style #nature #folk #friends #fun #arcteryx #scarpa #scarpaAMI #wyoming
