The Land of Common Disgrace, Vol. 2 When making a documentary became a collective act.  Palestinian artist and filmmaker @cinemasaeed joined SD Projects for a live, collaborative project exploring protest, policing, and political activism in Britain.  Attendees helped build the set, took part in a collective reading, or dropped in to watch the documentary being filmed. No experience was needed, and people were able to get involved as much or as little as they liked.  📍SD Projects, Folkestone  in collaboration with✨ @sdprojects.uk @folkestonedocfest @screen.south #videography #documentary #activism

Sugar Kelp, also known as Saccharina Latissima, is a brilliant natural environment cleanser: it takes up dissolved inorganic carbon through photosynthesis as it grows, without agricultural land or freshwater irrigation. We develop Kelpcrete using a cold extraction process which means that carbon remains chemically bound in the calcium carbonate retained within the finished mix. Pure calcium carbonate contains about 44 percent CO₂ equivalent by mass. This makes Kelpcrete an environmentally sustainable alternative to cement in construction. #kelpcrete #sdprojects #sustainablematerials #sustainableconstruction #sustainablearchitecture

Thank you @cinemasaeed for bringing experimental live documentary to Folkestone this week, with The Land of Common Disgrace Vol.2 🌟 The Land of Common Disgrace is an ongoing project examining central themes of protest, criminal justice within the UK legal system and the representation of Palestinian suffering — and resilience — through collective participation in filmmaking and performance. If you're keen to learn more on these themes, Saeed Taji Farouky is a Palestinian filmmaker whose work explores conflict, human rights & anti-imperialism (tagged above). There is also a great selection of reads available in SD Projects' reading room for public persual, with additional curation courtesy of @thefolkestonebookshop 📖🌿 @folkestonedocfest @screen.south @radicalfilmschool

Using our innovative cold-extraction method, we produce three useful products from Kelp. We recover minerals for construction: this is a calcium-carbonate-rich mineral fraction for our construction mixes to be used in lieu of cement; we recover high-value sodium alginate: this is a high-value product with thickening and gelling properties; and we also recover mulch for agriculture: this is agricultural fertiliser or soil conditioner. #kelpcrete #sdprojects #sustainablematerials #sustainableconstruction #sustainablearchitecture

The world produces nearly four billion tonnes of cement each year. Kelpcrete is an innovative low-carbon composite construction material made from Saccharina Latissima kelp which is effectively a cement replacement. Kelpcrete uses a cold extraction method for recovering useful minerals from seaweed; the process has been developed with Canterbury Christ Church University through Innovate UK-supported research.

Things you NEED to check out at the 2026 Folkestone Documentary Film Festival The Land of Common Disgrace Vol.2 comes to Folkestone: a collaborative live documentary by Palestinian filmmaker Saeed Taji Farouky, commissioned @sdprojects.uk in partnership with Screen South. Together, activists, filmmakers and members of the public will build a courtroom-inspired set, shaped by the experiences of people who have faced the UK legal system through their direct action for Palestine. The set will then become the stage for filmed re-enactments of their trials, exploring protest, policing and Palestinian resistance in Britain. Get involved: Help build, learn to use tools with guidance, join conversations, watch a live film set at work or simply spend time in the space. No DIY, filmmaking or performance experience is needed — everyone is welcome. 🔨 20–21 October: collective set build 📖 20 October, 4–5pm: Participatory Readings — join Saeed for a collective reading alongside film footage. Come to listen or read a short paragraph; no preparation or sign-up needed. 🎥 22 October, 9am–5pm:live documentary filming 📍 SD Projects, 48 Tontine Street, Folkestone FREE + NO BOOKING REQUIRED On Sunday 25 October, American Doctor follows three American doctors caring for patients in Gaza and speaking out about what they witness. Directed by Poh Si Teng, it screens at 11am at Quarterhouse. That evening, NAZA closes the festival at 6:30pm at Silver Screen Cinema. From No Other Land filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, it investigates the systems behind Israel’s mass killing of Palestinian civilians through conversations filmed at night on Tel Aviv rooftops. A huge thank you to @migrants_rights_network for joining us last night & sharing some great resources from their ongoing research into Raids, Immigration Enforcement, and Local Authority Complicity. Raids are not effective, and the presence of Immigration Enforcement on our streets does not make our communities safer; these are tools used to cultivate a climate of fear and it negatively impacts us all. If you're keen to learn more & get involved, we'll be developing best practice to ensure that our community here in Folkestone is one which takes care of everyone.

Mother Give us Rice Water  মা আমাদের  ভাতের মাড় দিলেন   maa amader bhaater maar dilen ECHOES OF BENGAL, VOICES OF MIDDLESBROUGH This bold, red centrepiece confronts the hidden history of the 1943 Bengal Famine, an event that claimed millions of lives yet remains untaught in the British school curriculum. Formed as the outline of a human face, the steel structure features sewn-on South Asian ghungroo bells, transforming a historical tragedy into a living space for local connection, empathy, and collective healing. As the wind moves through the bells, their sound flows into the ether, bridging past remembrance with our local community today commissioned by Stella Hall/The Auxiliary space for Middlesbrough Art Week THANK YOU Stella Hall for the commission, and @cowsikeworkshop for the knowledge and skill and support for the art production thank you to @edel_ni_raghallaigh @slevin.liam and the wider @middlesbroughartweek TEAM full of gratitude
