Had an awesome time presenting my research on Latinx Dance as Resistance Through Printmaking for the SDSU S3 Research Symposium 💃❤️‍🔥 thanks to everybody that came by and spoke with me about my concept!
My exhibition is about Latinx dance as resistance, specifically considering the genres of Cumbia and Salsa, as narrated visually through lino-cut printmaking. Cumbia and Salsa historically have been used as forms of coded protest and continue to hold that relevance today, therefore contributing to an overall sense of unity, transnationalism, empowerment, and Latinidad- or collective Latin identity. I chose lino-cut printing specifically, as lino-cut is historically a working class medium, and similarly Cumbia and Salsa are working class genres. I relate personally to the project as I am a part of a community that dances daily, serving as joy as disruption.

Feeling incredibly grateful after this year’s SDSU Student Symposium (S³). I was honored to receive the School of Journalism and Media Studies Award for my research project, “Olfactory New Media Art and Epistemic Sovereignty: Sensing, Relation, and Resistance.”

This work grew out of my research at @_c.m.a.r._, where I’ve been exploring how scent, art, and sensory experience can open new ways of understanding belonging, perception, and knowledge.

Sharing my work at S³ has been such a meaningful opportunity — not only to present the project, but to engage in rich interdisciplinary conversations across fields at SDSU.

I’m deeply thankful to my mentors @yinyustudio and @bg_projects for their guidance and support through this process.

Thank you to @sdsuresearch for creating platforms like S³ that allow students to share their ideas, experiment across disciplines, and connect with such thoughtful audiences.

Grateful for this community and excited to keep building from here!
