I would like to offer words of outrage, words of solidarity, words of courage, words of comfort… but there is so much to be said, and so little time to say it. My heart will always be with the oppressed people of the world, who suffer under ungodly systems wrought by those who worship the false idols of greed and war.

I dream of a day where LMU can say, with confidence, clarity, and transparency, that we do not invest in war profiteers, that we do not invest in weapons manufacturers, private prisons, or fossil fuels.

I dream of a day where LMU treats our students, staff, and faculty with the same care that we treat our trustees. I dream of a day where students can speak up, and say BREAK ICE, STOP THE WAR, and FREE PALESTINE, without being stifled, silenced, or ostracized. Because their cause, and their words, are right and just.

I dream of a day where people with courage and conviction are celebrated, not criticized. I dream of a day where our Mission isn’t just words, but actions. Because we are not mice: we are LIONS.

If you’ve been sad, if you’ve been exhausted, if you’ve been struggling to go through the motions of everyday life, good. It means you have a heart. Be free to feel. Be free to mourn. Be free to weep, without embarassment. Be free to take time for yourself.

But also be free to cheer. Be free to celebrate, without embrassment. Lean into the moments of joy in your day. Because we are worthy of joy. And we are here, on this beautiful campus, surrounded by good people. And we are not alone.

There is always hope, as long as we work together. Find your friends, and your community, in your classroom. Find your friends, and your community, on the Bluff. Find your friends, and your community, in the Loft. And celebrate each other, and celebrate with each other.

In the words of Ignatius of Loyola, “Laugh, and grow strong.”

Captain Skull and the Skallywags: a video game written and designed by Séamus O’Ryan.
It’s 1717: the Golden Age of Piracy… and only the stoutest Skallywags have the sand to sail with Captain Skull!
You choose your own path in this branching, narrative story, loosely inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.
Duff MacGuffin entrusted you with a map to the Secret Treasure of Dead Captain Steele… will you find the Treasure, or perish in the attempt? In either case, you will need a ship and a crew. In Captain Skull, your character can join the Navy, or join the pirates… but, in the immortal words of Steve Jobs, why join the navy when you can be a pirate? Will you join Skull’s salty crew… or defeat the Skallywags, with cannon, sword, or fist?
No two play throughs are the same, and your words determine your fate, as you parley and bullshit with the varied characters of the Caribbean. Chart a course from Bristol, to Dublin, to Boston, to Bermuda, to Nassau as you search for Steel’s Secret Treasure… but the true course of the story depends on the player’s choices.
