The SE face of Cerro Mesón Alto. The main goal of a 2.5 week trip to the central Andes. I found a picture of this face in an online climbing trip report back in August and was hooked on trying to ski it. I couldn’t find much information of other people skiing it. To my knowledge it’s been attempted several times but no one has skied it from the South Summit. We had to turn around at 16,200ft (1000ft from the South Summit). I don’t see myself ever trying it again or at least ever booting up the line as the bottom 2500ft was guarded by massive, very active seracs. No skiing is worth that amount of exposure.

As a complement to @sean.toms very descriptive post on our Cerro Mesón Alto project, I’d like to share some of my thoughts on this trip!🌸

Skiing this line had more cruxes than anything I have ever skied before; both on the line itself but even more during the 1,5 weeks leading up to dropping into the line. During the huge storm cycle we were ported from going back up in the mountain village where we have been staying after doing groceries in the closest town. It took us two days and lots of tries to get back up to Baños Morales which was a unexpected challenge. During this time me and Sean made friends with Max and Chris whom just arrived to Chile with big inspiring ski dreams.

Once we were back at our hostel we were unsure if it would even be possible to ski something safely with all of the fresh snow that had hit the mountains over the past few days. After letting the new snow settle for a bit, we saw a weather window coming up and decided to pack up our gear and supplies to stay for a week in the high in the mountains.

From here both me and Chris caught the flu. Chris felt sick already on day one and went back to the Hostería to recover, meanwhile I got sick later and decided to try to recover in the tent. Luckily enough both of us recovered well and as we moved our camp higher to about 3900 meter we were all together, feeling pretty much recovered, again!

On Thursday morning 2am we set off for climbing and skiing the SE face of Cerro Mesón alto. Lots of deep bootpacking and navigation in the dark. At around 9pm we started skiing, with the first pitch being measured to over 60* slope angle. I was intimidated to drop in as I never skied this steep before, but seeing @max.kilcoyne and @whoischop dropping in before me making beautiful, confident jump turns I felt inspired that I could do the same.

I’m happy we all made it back to camp safely, with only some frost bite on my left big toe. This adventure would never have been possible without @sean.toms, @max.kilcoyne and @whoischop who all been showing extraordinary strength, skills and willingness to ski through all of this! 🙌🏻🌟

Our backpacks were heavy; we never got the chance to weight them but the

Loma Larga🌟

Back in the high Andes, this time with @sean.toms coming all the way from Canada after seeing my posts from Cajon del Maipo! Today we came back after three nights in Valle Arenas. First day we approached the valley with heavy packs but also got some turns in (picture nr 8)! Second day was spent meditating and eating in the tent while waiting for saturdays weather window where we decided to go far and high. We skied from 4800 meters on Loma Larga SW, a cold, windy and clear day in the mountains until 2 pm when clouds rolled in and we headed back to camp. We are both stoked about this 2000 meter ski run that we got in good condition through terrain none of us had seen before! 🌟

A snippet from my Canadian journal 🇨🇦

I’ve been trying to figure out how to sum up what this short but wild adventure meant to me. A place I’ve dreamt of going since I learnt to ride bikes as a kid. Crazy to think I have now stood in places I watched hundreds of times as a kid through YouTube videos…

I’d be lying if I said Canada was everything I thought it would be. To be honest it filled with so many lows initially. I spent the first couple of months wanting to come home everyday. I burnt through all my life savings (s/o Canadian cars) and went into overdraft a fair few times. I spent more time with myself than I ever have before, often feeling lost and alone, wondering why I left home where everything was so good. Despite the challenges I’m so glad that I sat with the discomfort and pushed on because the remaining months were some of the best months of my life thus far.

My biggest learning from Canada is that epic places and memories are only as epic as the company you share them with. Cheers to every single person I got to create a memory with. You are all what made this adventure so special. Much love 💛 (see you all next summer? 👀)

Today is the start of my 30th year… crazy to think about! I generally don’t celebrate my birthday but today got me thinking about all the cool stuff that’s happened in the last 12 months and all the friends that have joined along the way. I’ve climbed a few sick mountains, done a hell of a lot of snowboarding and taken a few photos. These are some of my favourites!
