𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟗: 𝐌𝐘𝐊𝐎𝐍𝐎𝐒, 𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐂𝐄 🇬🇷 Mykonos, the “Island of the Winds,” isa dazzling jewel of the Cyclades known for its seamless blend of high-octane glamour and deep-rooted Mediterranean tradition. Famous for its iconic 16th-century windmills and its stark white cubic architecture, the island is a place where narrow, labyrinthine streets open up to turquoise bays. For a first-time visitor, #Mykonos offers a dual experience: the vibrant energy of its world-class beach clubs and the serene, sun-bleached beauty of its quiet corners and historic harbours. Our exploration begins in Chora (Mykonos Town), a pedestrian-only maze designed in medieval times to confuse marauding pirates.

Wandering through its white-washed alleys, you’ll discover Little Venice, a row of 18th-century fishing houses with colorful balconies that hang directly over the sea. Just above sits the famous Kato Mili, the row of windmills that has become the island’s silhouette. For a deeper cultural journey, a short boat ride takes you to the uninhabited island of Delos, the mythological birthplace of Apollo and one of Greece’s most significant archaeological sites. To experience the island’s famous coastline, head to the golden sands of Psarou or Elia Beach, or find quiet seclusion in the northern bay of Panormos. Shopping in Mykonos is centered on the upscale boutiques of Matoyianni Street, where global luxury brands sit alongside local designers. The island is particularly famous for its handmade leather sandals, custom-crafted to your feet by local artisans. The most quintessential souvenir is a piece of Greek jewelry, often featuring the “evil eye” (mati) for protection or intricate gold designs inspired by the treasures found on Delos. The culinary scene on the island is a sophisticated celebration of Cycladic flavours. For example, Kopanişti, a spicy, creamy fermented cheese that is a protected local specialty, often served ona dry barley rusk known as Dakos.

Zadar is a captivating Croatian city on the Adriatic Sea, renowned for a rich, 3,000-year history that seamlessly blends ancient Roman heritage with modern artistic innovation. As the oldest continuously inhabited city in #Croatia, its urban core is a living museum, featuring the largest Roman Forum on this side of the Adriatic alongside the monumental, 9th-century Church of St. Donatus. Over the centuries, Zadar withstood numerous sieges and rule by the Venetian, Austrian, and Napoleonic empires, each leaving a distinct architectural and cultural imprint on its fortified old town. Today, this resilient historical tapestry is dynamically paired with a unique contemporary culture, epitomized by world-famous architectural sound art installations like the Sea Organ and the solar-powered Greeting to the Sun. This rare fusion of deep antiquity, maritime tradition, and cutting-edge public art gives #Zadar a distinct cultural identity unmatched along the Dalmatian coast.

Messina is located on the northeastern coast of #Sicily, and just 3km across the Strait of Messina to the Italian mainland (Calabria). It was founded as the Greek colony of Zankle in the eighth century BC before being renamed by subsequent rulers. Over the centuries, its strategic natural harbour made it a vital Mediterranean trade hub and a gateway controlled by the Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Normans, and Spanish. Despite suffering severe devastation from historic disasters—most notably a catastrophic earthquake and tsunami in 1908 and heavy bombing during World War II—the city rebuilt into a modern port while preserving key pieces of its ancient and architectural heritage.

Naples (Napoli) is not only picturesque, it’s also one of the world’s greatest cultural centres, filled with extraordinary works of art and architecture in the classical Greek and Roman styles. Originally established by Greek settlers, it became a major cultural center of the Roman Empire. As Italy’s third-largest city, it is a high-octane metropolis where stately Bourbon buildings overlook crowded, life-filled streets. While it is famed for its notoriously spirited traffic, those who look closer find a city rich in centuries-old customs and a beauty that is raw, authentic, and utterly captivating.

The drama of the city is perhaps best appreciated from the sea. Cruising into the Bay of #Naples is a cinematic experience, with the skyline dominated by the imposing Sant’Elmo Medieval Castle perched high upon Vomero Hill. At the water’s edge, the 13th-Century Castel Nuovo stands as a sentinel right next to the cruise terminal, placing history at the very doorstep of the city. Situated on Italy’s west coast, Naples sits in the permanent, watchful shadow of Mount Vesuvius, the cataclysmic force that buried Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD, serving as the ultimate gateway to those ruins, as well as the fabled Amalfi Coast and the glamorous Isle of Capri.

Exploring the city on foot reveals a treasure trove of landmarks within a remarkably short distance. A brief walk to the left of the terminal brings visitors to a trio of Naples’ most celebrated sites: the aforementioned Castel Nuovo, the regal 17th century Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale), and the elaborate 18th-century San Carlo Opera House, which remains a pinnacle of European musical history. To reach the city’s fascinating Old Town, one simply needs to head past the castle and across the bustling Piazza Municipio, where the layers of Neapolitan history begin to peel away.
As the undisputed birthplace of pizza, the city offers an endless array of authentic pizzerias where tradition is treated as law.

One of Australia’s greatest wildlife spectacles happens beneath the surface. 🐢💙

Each year, hundreds of sea turtles gather along the Ningaloo Coast during breeding season, creating an unforgettable natural experience. Moments like these are best admired from a respectful distance, allowing nature to thrive undisturbed.

Beautifully captured by @seasunescapes , showcasing the magic of turtle season at Ningaloo Reef. 👏📸
