Completed another successful Library Tabling at the Salish Sea Elementary Spring Family Social
.
Alongside the front of the Library Table are bins sorted with books of different reading levels and types. In addition, nearby is a cozy reading area filled with soft pillows!
.
Students and their families visited other booths from local community organizations as well as playing fun carnival games to win prizes!

On this first day of #NationalPoetryMonth, we're delighted to hear the announcement that Rena Priest is the new Washington State Poet Laureate! A member of the Lhaq’temish (Lummi) Nation, she will be the first Indigenous poet to assume the role. She will succeed the wonderful Claudia Castro Luna beginning April 14.

“Poetry is a gift,” she says. “This is my approach to it and my belief about it: I'm very lucky to have it. We all are.”

Join on April 14 for a "Passing of the Laurel" online event hosted by the Lhaq’temish (Lummi) Nation, Humanities Washington, ArtsWA (the WA State Arts Commission), and the Washington Center for the Book (a partnership of the Washington State Library and The Seattle Public Library). Past Laureates Claudia Castro Luna, Tod Marshall, Elizabeth Austen, Kathleen Flenniken, and Sam Green (in absentia) will be honored guests as we gather to pass the laurel in an evening of poetry, speech, and song. Produced by Children of the Setting Sun Productions. Register online at:

Day 61: I Can. Not. believe it's already April 1! But somehow it is, so inspired by @bylaurencapellan I totaled up my library savings for Q1. I was pretty surprised by how little I've actually spent on books so far this year. It's probably time for me to go spend some dollars at my local indie, right?!
