POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Get out there & serve!! 🐎💐🌟

Prior to this week, I never understood how little I actually knew about the place we call home. I had seen the headlines, read over the history, and collected enough information to deem my perception of Kentucky as “enough”. However, I quickly realized how limited my interpretation once was.

For the last seven days I spent my time laughing on a school bus and sleeping on YMCA gym floors all while serving a variety of communities across our Commonwealth. My eyes were opened in ways I hadn’t thought about initially. Whether it was insight gained from talking to the elderly in Richmond or from going through Eastern Kentucky’s biggest media archive collection in Whitesburg. The stories I was told and the lessons I was taught are ones that will stay with me for a lifetime. You don’t realize how little you know about a place until you physically put yourself into the lives of others.

So, I urge you to do just that. Spend a little extra time hearing people’s narratives, pop in at your local food bank, pick up that piece of trash you see at your neighborhood park. If I learned anything this week, it’s that these little acts of service go further than you may believe. It’s the Kentucky way after all 😉
